Backtrack a few years to immediately following the hiring of Lovie Smith...I was a bit distraught, I was not a Lovie Smith fan, felt it was a backwards move...but because Lovie was family, I accepted it (ironically, the same position I now find myself regarding drafting Fameis Winston). After the immediate announcement, I initiated a lot of frustrated posts. As I began to calm down and accept that it's #abucslife ...someone (I think it was GameTime), asked who I was hoping for...I remember replying that I didn't really have a favorite...but I had a list of up and coming candidates I'd hoped we would have the good sense to interview...at the top of this list was the (then) OC of the 49er's, Greg Roman. The 9er's were making a run through/to the Super Bowl (which they lost) but Roman had a second year QB from Nevada running a spread attack all the way to the Super Bowl...Fast forward...I'm left to wonder...Greg Roman in the head coaching role he deserved...who knows...Rod Marinelli as Defensive Coordinator for Tampa Bay...if I only ran the railroad...No telling what this team would look like now...nor if we'd be in the position to take Marcus Mariota...but if so, there would be a WHOLE lot more excitement around the pick...and no one would be worried about the personality of a winning QB...nor would there be much discussion about Kid Fameis...he'd already be relegated to being the QB of the Titans.Who is Greg Roman? Here's a couple articles on the guy. You decide. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--offensive-guru-and-coaching-candidate-greg-roman-a-victim-of-his--niners--success-022509392.html http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/19/sports/football/greg-roman-is-the-49ers-quarterback-whisperer.html?_r=0 http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2012/09/06/49ers-oc-greg-roman-on-kaepernick-luck-the-read-option-and-more/
