I weep for Christian Hackenberg if they hire Schiano. They won't though.
I know they won't, but it would be beautiful if they did.
Failing in the NFL didnt hurt Pete Carrol at USC. 99% of all college HCs are never going to have one of those 32 jobs. The fact he's coached at that level and could help get them there is all that should matter to them. PSU has lost a lot of its luster anyways. Not like it's the Texas job.
Pete Carroll was also almost fired in his first year at USC, people hated that hire. And he didn't create a dumpster fire in New England like the perception is on what Schiano did here. It would be so unbelievably easy to negatively recruit against Schiano. I'd be so unbelievably shocked if they look at Schiano when they could get someone who is viewed much more positively in Munchak, or a good college coach, like James Franklin. PSU has lost some of its luster, especially with the recent stuff, however, it's still considered to be a very good job in the college rank, probably somewhere in the 15-20 range.
If Schiano wants out, it could save the Glazers cash and Schiano face. A win win for both. But if it does happen, it better be soon. Last time the Bucs entered the coach search late we got stuck with Rah.
We got stuck with rah (and dom for that matter) because the Glazers needed a coach that would be cheap and go for the "build through the draft". Back to back coaches with little to no bargaining power should speak volumes for what the problem is here.
Totally agree. Rah and Dom were hand-picked for the "task" that needed to be done. Remember "the plan?" The hiring of Morris and Dominik was no accident.
I think that's a stretch on Morris. Dom you might be right. Morris was hired because finding a young talented coordinator was the new vogue in the NFL after Tomlin and the like, and the Glazers saw that in Morris. Don't forget, they were getting requests from other teams to interview him. So rather than let him go and, in their minds, possibly be successful elsewhere and potentially be the new Tomlin, they just said fuck it and went with him, when he was nowhere near ready.

I don't believe its a much of a stretch as you think. Remember, Morris was never an NFL coordinator and he was only a DC at K-State for one year. In my mind, Morris was selected because he was expected to execute "the plan" without objection. We can agree on the fact that Morris was nowhere near ready. The past two seasons have felt eerily similar.
I do remember that. I just think that his interview with Denver (it was Denver right?) spooked them more than them simply looking for a lackey.

Sorry Aman, my memory isn't that good. Could've been Denver. I'll take your word for it. :) Truth be told, I've really tried to block out the Rah years.
Best xmas gift if it happens. Penn St can have schiano.
If they act quickly, i'll even throw in my schiano bobblehead. They can't have my alstott one though. Nope.

LOL I've got my "A-Train" bobblehead from his retirement game sitting on my desk right now. I remember some people here getting all pissed off because those "Stupid disrespectful Glazers" had a Jersey with his name spelled wrong at the ceremony ... apparently even then people didn't get the joke....
And for all you Freeman nuthuggers, you want to know one more thing that d-bag cost us? One more way he screwed us while you still pine for him? Any chance in hell of Schiano gracefully deciding to return to college and work out a severance with the Glazers. How do you expect him to recruit after what Team Freeman did to his reputation? Schiano isn't getting any kind of respectable college offer any time soon. Penn State has no interest in him. Sandusky would have had a better recruiting pitch.

I think only Buccaneer fans have let the Freeman saga effect their view on Schiano (in either direction) and his reputation. I'm not sure it had much effect on people outside of Tampa, whether they liked or disliked Schiano before Freeman's camp starting slinging mud. Because, make no mistake, Schiano had many detractors long before he sent Freeman's sorry ass packing.

Give it up. Casual foot ball fans can't even remember who Freeman is right now and if they do all they can remember is that horrible Monday night game with the Vikings. No one cares about that.

FRG is right on this one.
