Flores is and was a better coach than anything they subsequently hired. Not getting along with management is internal politics. Miami was subsequently caught tampering. Miami still hasn't won a playoff game. Miami is currently the worst team in the NFL. Miami has zero prospects of competing soon.

So... Flores can be a dick and the owners can hem and haw but nothing they've done since being sick of Flores has worked out.

Flores on the hand has proven he's a great defensive mind and has been part of a team that does nothing but win despite limited talent.

Maybe the owners and GM should have put up with him like other organizations have put up with other diva head coaches.

First, I'm not defending the Dolphins.

Second, again, not all "diva" coaches are alike. You keep pointing to guys that have won multiple championships like Belichick & Riley. They earned the respect and right to act however they choose to. Brian Flores was a first-time coach wanting to call all of the shots. That's not how this thing works, so it's probably not going to go over very well in the building. And you know what? It didn't go over very well in the building - and he was sent packing.

And why are you acting like the tanking part is fake or disproven? Nothing of the sorts...

The NFL is a corrupt and self-serving organization.

The NFL wasn't very corrupt and self-serving when the same investigation suspended and fined Ross, as well as took away a first round pick and a third round pick. Draft picks don't get taken away very often. Forfeiting a first rounder is pretty severe punishment that has only happened two other times in the history of the league. Those same investigators said the Dolphins didn’t intentionally lose and neither Ross nor anyone else from the organization instructed Flores to lose on purpose.

I think you've realized the timing of Flores' firing doesn't really hold up with the narrative of being fired because he refused to tank. I don't really expect you to admit it, but it's pretty clear. The firing and reporting of Flores' behavior with the team, from the lowest in the organization to the highest in the organization, is more in line with him being the asshole a large part of the organization said he was.

My points have been made, you can the last word.

From what I can tell being an asshole can be a positive as long as you're winning, but if you're an asshole and losing you lose credibility.

The Ringer article addressed this pretty well. Flores wasn't fired because he was losing. He was fired because he was an asshole that his GM and Owner didn't want to work with anymore, and more and more players were speaking out against him and how he was carrying himself.

And because he wouldn't tank

I know this is the narrative Flores and his supporters are pushing. But those allegations were denied by the investigations into the Dolphins, the same investigations that cost the Dolphins a first & third draft pick and suspended & fined Ross for tampering with Sean Payton and Tom Brady.

Not only that, but these allegations were from 2019. The Dolphins subsequently went 10-6 in 2020 and 9-8 in 2021. Brian Flores wasn't fired until 2022. Why did the Dolphins wait so long to fire him if the firing was because "he refused to tank" in 2019?

Because the brass got sick of him. Pretty obvious question unless you meant that to be rhetorical

You’re right, it is obvious. So what you’re saying is, if he hadn’t have been a complete asshole to the owner, GM, and a lot of players, he wouldn’t have been fired?

The problem with that is it kinda takes away the “he was fired because he wouldn’t tank” narrative. That’s an interesting theory you’re proposing, but I do think you may be right.

LMAO!

So they hired McDaniel and made the playoffs in the 2 seasons that followed Flores

Flores is a better coach than McDaniel. They went all in on FA with McDaniel and got a wide open division with Brady leaving.

You genuinely think McDaniel is better than Flores?

LMFAO!

You've simply repeated yourself. Nothing new has been added.

The NFL gets shit wrong all the time.

The NFL gets shit wrong all the time.

sometimes, intentionally so.

Not really even unique to the NFL, more corporate culture.  The NFL investigation of the Dolphins was not unique and more about protecting the shield and creating the appearance of an investigation so you get "yes Ross said $100k for losses" but "people are fuzzy on the details and cant say he was not just joking"

Ultimately, Ross did what even the NFL says he did with respect to tampering, so that puts all the Dolphin defenders in the awkward position of saying that Ross was a sideways cheater then (Brady/tampering) . .  but not before (Flores).  Plausible right, leopard changing spots!

Yeah, he turned out to be a better head coach, no?

Of course looking at the first 4 games this year, of course, Flores is performing better in his coordinator role than McDaniels is

but in terms of Miami tenure, yes McDaniels > Flores

You can save your YEAH BUTs...

McDaniels or Flores would be upgrades over Bowles but I think the Bucs need to go more bold.

Eric Bieniemy has become a forgotten name.

Bobby Slowik worked wonders when he was an OC.

Reich I think deserves another chance.

Daboll I am 50/50 along with McDermott.

I am leaning toward Bieniemy and here is why:

Best coach to unlock this running game and talent at RB.  Open up the passing lanes and routes for the WR talent the Bucs have with the offensive scheme.

Miami went all in under McDaniel and traded for one of the best if not THEE best wr in the league.

Miami under Flores was a completely different setting.

I don't understand why context is so hard for you to understand?

Bowles went to the playoffs a bunch and won games. More games than Arians. More playoff appearances than Arians. The same amount as McKay and Gruden. One less than Dungy.

Those are stats without context. And we all know all Bowles is the worst coach of that group. Hell I'd say Bowles is just as bad as Morris or Koetter.

The difference is talent, culture, what you inherit, expectations etc.

That's why coach of the year doesn't go to the team with the most wins.

Flores took a fledgling team in a division with a dynasty and made it competitive. And as much as anyone wants to deny the tanking allegation, this is an ownership that subsequently got caught tampering. It is not even remotely far fetched to assume Flores was at the very least sharing a half truth.

Either way, I think you can safely assume McDaniels had more to work with and benefitted from the dynasty being broken up.

And ultimately Flores was right about Tua and that whole shit show of an organization.

And RIGHT NOW he is very clearly the better coach and has demonstrated longer success than McDaniel's two season of quick playoff exits.
