Now grant it, Todd Bowles not a great coach and clearly replacing Coen with Grizzard was malpractice; but i would be interested to see if we actually had a qualified OC what the offense does?

We already know the answer to that. We saw it in 2024. We saw it this past season in Jax.

Could’ve been an 11-win team this past season if he were our HC.

Instead, we watched every team in the division get better, while we moved backwards.

And, it’s happening again this offseason.

McDaniel may have yet another head coaching interview? Sean McDermott fired in Buffalo.

Some also speculating this would be an interesting spot for Brian Daboll.

the Bucs likely don't have a great reputation

From everything I have seen its sort of the opposite

There's a weird disconnect in your comment, if i am reading it correctly.  Glazers should have fired Bowles for Coen, but firing Lovie for his "white" (why?) OC is one reason they have a bad reputation?

Around the league the Bucs and the Glazers (and Licht) are pretty highly-respected as part of a well-run franchise.  I think the Bowles move this off-season is a weird half-measure, but there are probably plenty of coaches who applaud it as loyalty and patience.

The Bucs were in a difficult spot as Todd Bowles said, "he won 3 division titles."

Sean McDermott had won his division five out of the last six years, with an average record of 12.2-4.5.  He was just fired in Buffalo - with no clear replacement.

Sometimes, owners have to make hard decisions. The Glazers fucked it up.

It's a four team competition for McDaniel for OC:  Eagles, Lions, Chargers and Bucs.  Maybe put the  That's some tough competition.   How would you rank them?  They're all pretty decent situations, but I certainly wouldn't put the Bucs at the top of that list, perhaps I'd even put them at the bottom.  And of course there are eight HC openings where a good chunk of them will need OCs.   Don't know who the coaches will be, but just by virtue of them being new hires they will be able to offer more stability than a HC with the hottest hotseat in the league.

You have to put this on Licht as well, because the fuckup was half a year ago when they extended Bowles contract and before that when they chose to let Coen walk in favor of Bowles.  That had to be at the recommendation of Licht IMO.  So now the Glazers don't want to fire a guy seven months after extending him.  That doesn't look good.  So you can certainly fault the Glazers for not cutting their losses, but it's not good business to make a big decision and go back on it less than a year later.  Whover decided to cut Liam Coen and extend Bowles - that's who's responsible for Bowles being here right now - and Licht was in the middle of that.

No shit. What do you think we are talking about?

And the GM makes recommendations.  The owners make decisions. We have no idea what Licht's recommendation was, but we do know the owners decided to keep and extend Bowles. Whatever the GM recommended, ultimately the decisions on HC's are made by the owners.

Lol. Coen wasn't cut, he got a new job.

The owners are ultimately making these decisions. They have made good ones and bad ones. I doubt the idea of keeping Bowles for 2026 while asking him to fire all his coaches (he needed to) was Licht because he is ultimately tied to the success of the 2026 season too.

Now, Licht and Arians and the Glazers . . as a collective group thinking it through? Probably, not a crazy theory. It has the feel of a negotiated settlement lol. All the more so if we get a no name OC and the fired defensive coaches are mostly replaced by internal promotion.

At this rate the next Bucs OC might be the Memphis Showboats waterboy.

Good owners rely on the advice of the football people. The Glazers put their trust in Licht.  It's their job as owners to let the GM do his job.  The Glazers do have the final say and supposedly according to SR they love Bowles, but this isn't a case of them overriding the football people and doing what they want.  If you are trying to say that I'm sorry I'm not buying that.  I don't know where you would be getting that from.

The Glazers do have the final say

There you go - and they fucked it up.

Glad you're on board.

Yes, and so did Licht.  I'm not exonerating the Glazers, but you seem to be implying that the Glazers didn't take the advice of Licht.  I'd like to know where you are getting that from.

lol, that might be right!

Thats why the move is such a curious one.  I think half-measure is a good description.

Who knows, maybe McDaniel is named momentarily lol

I assume this press conference will be held tomorrow, then. Looking forward to it.

Anyway, I was pretty clearly referencing in-house replacements. They fired McDermott without having someone ready in-house to promote, like the Buccaneers did in the guy that turned around the Jacksonville franchise in year 1.
