The lions play a mix of coverage cover 1 cover 2 cover 3 against us. They disguise themselves very well and have a good 4man pass rush who rarely blitz. The key to this game on offense is being to attack our landmarks. The key is attacking the linebackers in cover 2/3 down the seams. Ways we can attack those seams is by making them think, the quicker we can make them think the easier our passing lanes will open up. Baker is gonna need to be on this game. They opened up with a lot of man but if we can frustrate their line and linebackers with dumpoffs they will start creeping and play flatter.

We need to freeze the linebackers, and a big game from otton again.

One thing Detroit really liked doing to us week6 was when we went into 4spread or empty the lions would go into cover 2 then disguise the cover 2 with 2lbs in the A gap, keep the running back in the backfield to force the linebackers to hesitate on getting to their zone because of run fits, can even play action it.

from 12 its cover 2, hi lo post corner with a flat, fake screen attack the 1on1 with safety sometimes they have their linebackers go double a gap and rush to their zones. A look I expect to show up again this Sunday. Mike will have his 1on1 looks c1 i believe the free safety can be frozen and moved for a deep go ball either with pumps or Baker using his eyes. To hit these deep shots we have to trust the protection and baker needs to be comfortable stepping up into the pocket. The GB gameplan to attack those zones worked very well but expect the safeties to not have as much depth, we need to pass to win this game then we can hit them, then go with the run.

We need to jam on the stack receivers to throw off timing or to attack the screen and to drive directly into your man to remove space, similar to how dts put guards into rbs laps

The lions offense is predicated on timing and spacing, dont give them the space and dont give them the timing, throw it off by jamming. WE HAVE to jam to throw off timing. For screens we need the safety/lb/ncb to jam and drive into that front man to disallow the screen and throw off timing. they have 3 bread and butter type plays, hi lo hitch with dig over top flat to clearout, clear out seam dig, and screens. How do we stop it we simply attack and throw off the timing from our dbs. The key here is to throw off the timing and make Goff uncomfortable and to double pump, doing so will disallow yac and possibly get him sacked. The stack concept is to not allow us to man up and it natural creates a mesh. if we do want to play man i would like us play cover 1 with 1 deep safety 1 robber safety who will drive on the crossing route it can be disguised as cover 2/2man under with 1 safety driving on the crosser. There was 1 sequence of play where the lions legit called the same play twice out to the x receiver, we played a lot of zone wk6 switch it up on the lions maybe  80/20 man zone

3:26 all 22attack screen/jam receiver Neal needs to attack the receiver and jam him into the receiver and wait for backside pursuit, devin white was lazy on this 1st down play

26:14 all 22attack screen/jam receiver Neal needs to attack the receiver and hold his gap and drive his man into amon rah

54min all 22 a successful jam of the receiver goff runs for 4

Don’t be discouraged if we give up a big play here and there to man coverage because these receiver arent scary but they know how to run to space. They will not blow us over the top unless its jameson. Ben johnson is all about stack concept to force teams into zone. I think if we go into man we are better m2m just be careful of zero blitzing. Do not zone blitz this team it is well coached to find the open areas. Zyon Mccollum playing safety will be the difference maker in this game vs Neal who played terrible. Mccollum needs to attack the stack man and stop the screens by holding the gap instead of shooting the gap like neal last game and believe in backside pursuit to clean up.

I really think this lions team cant beat our man2man consistently they are designed to beat zone defenses. Goff is a timing thrower, throw his timing off make him win the game with dime throws and he will miss one right into our defenses chest. Rah is a the hitch runner and dig runner he almost never runs a go be prepared to tackle and hustle and crash the hitch route get lucky and we pick him

Optional defensive playcalls for the stack hi-lo- Cover 2 zone disguised as cover 3 drive the corner into the hitch who lines up 8yards back into the hitch middle linebacker landmarks the hi dig outside linebacker plays the flat like a cover 2 safeties play normally. Linebackers/s/ncb who have responsibility of the flat in zone calls key how many offensive players are your side if there is no flat runner(Te,RB) immediately drop into the hitch with the MLB landmarking the deep dig. They run this play on money downs and its there go to, expect it and pick it off, easier said than done but we need to drill against this play over and over on scout team. They have a tendency to screen on first down vs us they may try to do the same next week attack the blockers and don't give the runners space make it hard for them.

I re read it and it’s way too many thoughts I wrote without proofreading to understand cohesively. I still have a lot more as was only able to scrub about 7games in the last 2days.

the tldr is

Jam them at line throw off timing

stop their bread and butter which , hi lo concepts, and screens.

On offense use motion to identify the coverage. They don’t blitz much. Lbs in the Double A gap looks is usually cover 2

9:08 all 22 - Week 14 bears lions the bears do a good example of this jam and throwing off timing which leads to a sack. Corner taps his helmet to signal the switch and jam the motion receiver. This is essentially what I want us to do there is more to the play than just the jam but it was a 3rd down stack play with hi lo concept that. Goff holds on too long because of the jam.

16:50 all 22 - DT puts his hands on amon rah because they are attacking the the stack concept by throwing off timing

20:47 all 22 - 40yard line 3rd down Flood concept from bunch formation same play that ended with a td to jameson williams against us the bears pick it off. 3rd down play a tendency the lions have.

I consistently point this out because of how much the bears focused on it to stop the Lions timing on offense. They also do what I point out which is to not give space and forcing tight window throws for Goff. I just know the picks will be there if we can read it fast enough and see it fast enough we can literally rattle goff so bad if we take 1 pick on him by catching one of his dig crossers, cause he will second guess his window throw every time (26:55)

I really wish i could just embed these videos for you guys. Ben Johnson has some very noticeable tendencies and he consistently has his bread n butter just like the 4th and short jet sweep under center that took the league by storm this year which he used all last year(not so much this year since the league caught on).

The eagles gameplan was so much shorter because it was quite simple and never really changed there are so many layers to the Lions offense/defense i could write 30 pages

Another note when they motion, the play is usually towards the motion majority of the time.

Another key is to not get outmanned on any side, the lions do a good job of doing this we need to stay on our keys and have good communication to shift and not to be outmanned for run gaps something im not worried because of how well hold our gaps but dont be outmanned when there is the bunch/ stack concept.

We can essentially Bear the lions 28-13, when we outcoach them

Good season, Lions did the same thing they put on film all season, with the high low concept and zone beaters. Bears won 28-13 because they removed timing and spacing and didnt fear the Lions stack formation and jammed it up. Questiionable zone calls that shredded us right down the field and put our defense on their heels
