I dont think Schiano has any special ability to judge talent. He is still living off the knowledge of the guys he recruited. Once that timeline is over, he will be just another guy. Witness him cutting the DLinemen this summer that MD brought in. He will stay because he still has 3 years left on the contract. No other reason.
It is easy to see how an argument could occur in determining which coach (and their staffs) was worse. Just sayin' guys...
It's fairly comical to watch a few posters deny this.
Schiano's big selling point has been how we need him and he is changing the culture to be a disciplined team.....yet we lead the league in penalties. Seem less disciplined than we were with Rah running things.

Penalties occur because of a lack of discipline and because of getting beat physically, we seem to have both types and quite a few penalties along the offensive line, of both stripes. So its a fair point, but I am not sure that penalties is in this instance a perfect example of an undisciplined team, because it also seems to relate to a team getting beat bad, a lot. . . . although not exclusively. Cetainly it is not the best example of us being a team less disciplined than the Morris team that quit on the field, allegedly had a lot of fun in London and around town etc.
Most penalties in the league doesn't = undisciplined. Seems legit.

catch phrase not completely backed up by the facts, some truth to it but not to the level that you asserted, which was the Morris v. Schaino comparison.

LOL, classic Buggsy, always calling others' opinions stupid or illegit . . . without actually considering the facts. But for JDub, here's what "seems legit" about his catchphrase. "False start" is a good example of an "undisciplined" penalty. Based on the link below (not vouching for it, just using it) the Bucs have 15 "false start" penalties, but that is against a league average of 14.5, so hardly undisciplined (like the Morris team that partied and quit). By comparison, the Bucs have 23 offensive holding penalties against a league average of 16. Offensive holding is often an indication of flat out getting beat. There is always arguably a discipline component because one can argue that a lineman showed "undisciplined" technique, but in reality this is a stat that shows the Bucs getting beat. The Bucs have a high number of roughing the passer and unnecessary roughness penalties, so maybe a good indication of an "undisciplined" team, but also could just be an aggressive team (Seattle is an example). The Bucs have more than the average number of "delay of game" penalties. If you adjust for Freeman it is probably a bad stat, but even taking it at face value, it suggest a lack of discipline, perhaps, but then the Bucs have more defensive pass interference penalties than average too, a sign of getting beat.Like I said -- less than perfect example because the actual stats cut both ways, but more importantly using a high number of penalties as the premise for "Schaino team is LESS disciplined than Morris team" is not really accurate . . . unless, I guess, the Seahawks are about to quit on their coach sometime soon . . .they lead the league in penalties, at least by this source: http://www.nflpenalties.com/ Maybe Carroll is the New Raheem Morris and the Seahawks are about to quit at any moment. ;)Incidentally, this is an example of starting with a conclusion ("Schiano team less disciplined than Morris") and trying to find stats to back it up. The conclusion may be true, but the stats chosen don't necessarily say as much.(Buggsy, you never fail to step in it .. . always good for a laugh)
Penalties are a little concerning from the discipline stand point, but there is more to it than just what goes on on the field. Some of the penalties can be attributed to being a young team overall and lets not forget the personal foul machine free agent signing. We did commit no penalties in the first half of the 49ers game.

Neither hire was particularly good and the w/l doesn't lend itself to greatness for either HC, but at least when schiano hits the road there will be a foundation for the next HC to work with and we shouldn't have to start from scratch all over again.
The fact that this thread exists after witnessing 2011 is all you need to know about Schiano. He is a terrible coach. There is no reason in season two that we should be in this bad a shape. We should be a whole lot closer to KC than Jax if he was the coach he was advertised to be.

I was watching the review of the game on NFL network yesterday, they all agreed that the talent is there but coaching needs to improve. I just don't see this team making a significant improvement with Schiano.
Lets just be real if schiano can't take the good talent accumalted over the last 2 years to more then 4 wins he's a terrible coach. He's still bad either way. I could make a case that if schiano had that 2010 talent level team that went 10-6 playing a soft schedule schiano probably wouldn't of gotten 2 wins out of that group. what wins we do have this year the players have won in spite of schiano not because of hin

He will get to stay because he has 3 years remaining. The obambacare rollout folks laugh at how he handled the Freeman transition. A real coach would have sat him down from day one and done a Bellicheat, next question type of presser.
