Maybe we should retain Schiano as a talent scout. He sounds better suited for that position.

I'd love for that to happen, but I think he'd rather go back to college where he could get a HC gig.

If the Bucs go 5-3 in the second half of the season, Schiano deserves another year with a focus on upgrading the offense. Schiano is sill learning in game management, but he certainly has an eye for talent. The team went from worst to first in rush defense in 2012, and from worst to much improved in pass defense this season. His most important contribution has been reuniting the players despite all of the turmoil with Freeman In effect, he had two viruses to deal with early on. He has shown that he knows how to correct issues, even if it means dumping your starting QB. I'm curious to see what he does at the QB position.Bottom line; I'd rather stick with Schiano than start all over with someone else. Schiano knows this team.

Again, show me anywhere in his past 13 years of coaching that says "Super Bowl winning coach".  If your bar isn't there then you have the wrong guy.

"The team went from worst to first in rush defense in 2012, and from worst to much improved in pass defense this season."If we can see even close to that kind of improvement in the offense next year, we'll actually be in pretty decent shape.

Unfortunately under Schiano this team has looked completely unprepared and undisciplined. He is not doing what was expected of him....so I'm not sure why he is being brought back for a 3rd year or why so many fans want him back for a 3rd year.

Agree with you 100% here. Rutgers entire schtick is that he basically knows he's not that smart and he more or less admits that. His angle is that we do all the little things right, are prepared and don't beat ourselves and that sure as Hades isn't true. Really, that can work, I mean Norv Turner has been very success and he admits his offense has like 7 total running plays for example...but his "simple" works. The rationale for keeping him now has become: team hasn't quit and "consistency". Team not quitting is where the lowered expectations set by Rah help him out so much. Most teams don't lay down because players are competitive and want to win and will try really hard not to be losers. Jags are bad, not laying down. Bills are bad, not laying down. Browns, bad not laying down. Raiders, Rams, Vikes all bad not laying down. Heck the Texans aren't lying down when you look at their their last 7 straight losses since they got whacked by STL they have lost by a combined total of 29 points.Consistency is bogus. Consistency is why guys like Jack del Rio and Jim Haslett worked for so long being mediocre. The really, really great thing is that next year we have a good shot of being 8-8 just off the general regression to the mean that happens year over year. That will show "improvement" and he'll be back for a 4th year despite not having anything near an overall winning record. If he isn't fired this offseason, settle in for the long haul of Rutgers special brand of bland.

100% right.

31 one teams have the same argument...We are dissecting this with a microscope. Are we saying there is a Coach that can take us to the SB?. There again are 31 teams thinking the same. Our issue are as such:1) Can the fans ever be happy?2) Can we do it with the players we have?3) Are the Players Happy and Committed?4) Are the Owners happy and are they committed?5) Do we forget about why we all are influxed with so much change from the ownership...(while they keep raking in the cash)?6) Where is our team gong from here and why not settle down for a few years with a Coach? Its not good to have a carousel.7) Is it time for a complete overhaul of the Front Office? My thoughts are that we got out of control with Raheem and he shouldn't have been here in the first place. His experience was a lil rushed. We shouldn't have gotten rid of Gruden but what is done is done. You can't take every microchasim of this organization and say we should've would've, could've.... Teams are built with Chemistry and Tony Dungy did it with all of his defense...Jon Gruden did it with his offense....This team is still finding its identity and chemistry and have come leaps and bounds in progress doing it since the ownership has fired the last two Coaches. I at this point don't want to keep cutting and not let the team at least get through some milestones. Some of the Milestones that I see.We have some younger players now playing more discipline, not getting out of hand believing in a system and getting their chemistry. Tony used to say Defense wins championships and Offense put points on the board. Offense always takes longer to build and I am wanting to see how we keep growing at this moment. Our defense is settling in. Our offensive is getting better. The Coaching will get better or the inevitable will happen. We all know this. Go Bucs...OBD

Good post OBD.  Big improvement over Morris era.  Next coach won't have to clean up a mess

Was there a part of this team that didn't need a complete makeover when schiano took over?    Punter/kicker/Long Snapper (thanks Calico)?    Anything else?

Poor attempt at deflection.  Answer the question.

Come on now Olaf, that's asking too much of Mr. ambiguity himself, FRG.

Dungy had 6 years and couldn't find an offense. He never would have won a SB had he stayed with the Bucs.Gruden had 7 years and and managed one top ten offense (not in 2002). Forget about building a team, he couldn't even maintain one.Raheem had 3 years and lost the team. He was in way over his head and the players knew it.Schiano has had 2 years and made some mistakes but he has reunited this team and been decisive in correcting every issue. It's not possible to fix everything in just a year or two. He's cut the dead wood, and really improved the roster. He has a solid foundation on defense and some promising pieces on offense. He needs to work on his game management, but he's actually building a well balanced and talented roster. No other coach has been able to do that here. The Bucs are 4-1 in this half of the season. i want to see if they can build on that. 2014 should be a make it or break year. He deserves at least one fresh start with a team he is familiar with without Freeman. No excuses. He's done a great job fixing the defense. Now it's time to fix the offense. Maybe we DO need to draft a QB in the first round. The great franchises don't blow things up and start over from scratch. I believe most here would be happy with a 4-1 record to start the 2014 season. It's possible. Schiano deserves at least what Raheem got. Freeman was too much of a handicap for any coach to overcome.

pretty much agree. The only accomplishments used to support his staying are weak at best. Havent quit, beat a few bad teams, ran some trick plays.......He needs to show more than being more disciplined than Raheem. Schiano has to win 2 out of the next 3 just to equal Raheems first 2 year win total. Schiano has had far more talent.its like theres suddenly a whole bunch of people willing to forget everything prior to these last 5 games. They ignore the fact that if Raheem was such a bad coach, why is  Schiano not held to at the very least a slightly higher standard with a much more talent team?

Not a fair comparison. Freeman quit on the Bucs in the middle of 2012, and had a negative effect on the first half of this one. Raheem didn't have that issue until year 3.
