So I’ve always been curious why the NFL has never considered increasing the roster size. When you consider their goal is player safety, I definitely see it as something that should be looked into. Let’s not forget that I’ve read stories, whether they were credible or not I have no clue, about the NFL considering ways to improve player development, a potential D-league.     Isn’t one of the biggest problems from injuries, besides the freak accidents, is fatigue? A player’s level of fatigue can greatly affect how they play.     Any ways, I believe that by increasing the roster limit can at least help players reduce their chances of injuries. Now with just 46 active players, multiple players are playing double duty with special teams and offense/defense. Most teams can’t have consistent rotation at most positions because the lot of them can typically have anywhere between 5-10 players as special team specialists. That would mean 37-41 players available to play most of the game.     Why not make it so that teams can at least go two-deep on offense and defense plus have enough players that can focus on special teams only? My suggestion was a minimum 60 active w/ 5 inactive. And instead of creating an D-League or working with a semi pro league, just increase the number of practice squad players to 25 for development. Making that a full roster at 90.    The way I see a simple roster breakdown of a hypothetical 65-man roster, you would take some of the third stringers and at them to special teams from offense and defense. Offense: QB: 3 OL: 10 RB: 3        FB: 2      TE:4   WR: 8 Defense: DL: 9 LB: 8         CB: 8 S: 6 Special: K: 1         P: 1         LS: 1 KR/PR: 1     I understand that it’s all about the money. That’ll would be the primary argument for most. The salary cap would clearly increase significantly. With the increase of the salary cap, maybe the floor could be at 75-80 percent along with an increase of the base salary to 750,00 – 1,000,000.     Sorry for the extended post. Just curious what the rest of the BUCS fans think about this. My primary reasoning behind this is player safety, since it’s been an increase in topic in sports at all levels.
