With roll over the Bucs are $83M under the 2017 cap. Can save another $13M by releasing EDS, Verner and G. Johnson putting them $96M under. A Gholston extension at $9M a year leaves them at $87M under.
The Bucs have more than enough room to put the non-exclusive franchise tag on Glennon and maximize their compensation. The Bucs can potentially use their cap room at bring in a premium pick from the Jets.I suggested doing this with Revis in 2014 with the Browns or Cowboys.
How it would work...
-Bucs tag Glennon for about $20M, he immediately signs it. Media laughs at Bucs, but don't worry.
-I know for a fact the Jets want Glennon but have less than a million of cap room. Jets and Glennon work out deal, lets say 5 years, $65M. Bucs re-sign Glennon to this deal...
$20M signing bonus
2017- $1M
2018-21- $11M per year
Bucs trade him to Jets, eating $20M of dead cap but still leaving them with $67M of cap room.
In return Bucs receive.
