People are talking about rebuilding the team, restarting at QB, or just needing a shutdown corner to solidify the defense.
As someone on Twitter said: "The Bucs have been one year away from being one year away since 2007."
The reality is that the Bucs aren't as bad as they showed against the Panthers, just as they aren't as good as they showed against the Rams.
The NFL has enough parity that almost any team can beat any other team. Under the right conditions on the right day these Bucs could beat the Patriots or the Chiefs or the Saints. The problem is, there isn't enough parity that the Bucs will do so only very rarely.
The simple truth is that this team is not close to being able to WIN playoff games and go to the Super Bowl. That is the metric - not having a "playoff roster" that can squeek in as a wild card and lose to a better team.
For this team to turn the corner the Bucs need to be at the level of the Patriots, Chiefs, Saints. Never mind strong teams like the Vikings, Packers, 49ers, Seahawks, Rams, Cowboys, Bills and Texans. Do you think the Bucs are close to being at the level of any of those teams?
This organization has stunk for so long fans (and media) have gotten inured to losing. And that means just making the playoffs (or having a roster that could make the playoffs) has become acceptable. It's not.
This team is far away from being a team that can win playoff games. It needs a radical turnaround in both the roster and the front office. And that assumes the Glazers are even capable of hiring the right person. It's not a QB or a shut down corner or a defense or a running game away.
It's a massive turnover away. And until then, this team will be a loser.
