This year was supposed to be the year that the Bucs became a force in the NFL. We have the dynamic young gunslinging Winston and a ton of talent at the offensive skill positions. So what has happened...what’s gone wrong?
In my opinion, we got trapped by the seductive appeal of spending on offensive skill positions that we ignored the foundations of football...the trenches. The offensive and defensive lines is where football teams dictate the game.
Right now we don’t play well enough in the trenches which trickles down leading to offensive and defensive struggles.
Im not saying we need superstars at these positions in order to compete, but even simple adequacy seems much to ask for. The question is why our lines have struggled so much this year especially? On defense we have some decent to good players that seem to be underachieving and our offensive line seems to simply lack good football players outside Marpet and an adequate Dotson.
I place much of this on the plate of Jason Licht.
