Im constantly seeing fans say we should be restructuring McCoy's contract but im never seeing the proposals of the numbers that would be greatly beneficial to us and also a win for McCoy. Anybody have a deal that makes sense for both? Because when I run through numbers in my head im not seeing how a McCoy restructure is such an easy win-win to pull off.
Things to consider.. Scneario A) If McCoy doesnt restructure but we keep him, he makes 13mil this year and probably is released next year. hell be 32 and in the current rapidly growing market he probably lands a deal that could still net him maybe 10-16mil guaranteed. Say 2 year 20mil with 12 guarunteed just for a hypothetical. he released after a year and at 33 he lands a 1 year 5mil deal. at the end of that hypothetical he nets 13 + 12 + 5 = 30mil.
Scenario B) we save 13 mil and release him. Not the worst thing in the world for McCoy because at 31 and still productive, he may land a solid 3 year deal with some decent guarunteed money. Suh's current market value is 3 years 46mil, Im thinking McCoy could at least land 3 years 30ish with 2 years guarunteed.
Scenario C) the McCoy Restructure. this is where im not seeing how it helps him and us? What would McCoy being willing to accept in a restructure that beats out A) and B), only thing that would do that is something like 2 more years guaranteed at like 10mil each.. and why would we want to have McCoy guaranteed on the books next year?
Unless McCoy is a real nice guy or does not want to move at all, then Im not seeing a restructure happening
