If Brady leaves - the battle plan has to include the 2024 draft QB, right?

Semantics. If that's all you're concerned about, you win.

Semantics.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

I'd love to be wrong about Trask, but we all know he sucks.

It just is what it is...

So yes, we will likely need to turn to the draft to find a qb and is say that because we cannot waste a year on Trask with Evans at 29.

We still have, when healthy, an elite WR core.

We have a solid offensive line that could look much better with some mobility back there.

We have enough talent to give a rookie a chance to succeed. I'd even be open to Richardson despite FU being awful with qbs.

But Trask isn't the guy. He just isn't. Let it go...

His ball has zero velocity and he runs in mud.

Hard pass

Richardson is a awful  QB , good athlete with big arm , but not a NFL starting QB at this point in his career

Dude, are you saying Richardson > Trask? If so, you need to put the pipe down and get some help.

I don't particularly want either of them because as I said, Florida doesn't know how to make an NFL qb.

Richardson is raw... but he's 10x the TALENT Trask is...

I seriously don't understand how anyone can get excited by Trask. He's below average at almost everything

Florida doesn't know how to make an NFL qb.

How are there still people making this ignorant argument?

Did Texas Tech know how to make an NFL QB before Patrick Mahomes?

Did California know how to make an NFL QB before Aaron Rodgers?

Did Wyoming know how to make an NFL QB before Josh Allen?

Did LSU know how to make an NFL QB before Joe Burrow?

Did Clemson know how to make an NFL QB before Watson/Lawrence?

Did Tennessee know how to make an NFL QB before Peyton Manning?

And how in the blue hell is Justin Herbert so good even though Marcus Mariota/Joey Harrington/Akili Smith also went to Oregon?

The list could go on for a while. It is a simpleton's argument to make. Jameis Winston didn't throw 3 million interceptions because he went to FSU.  He threw all of those interceptions because protecting the football isn't that important to him.

Do you think a rookie drafted in the latter half of the round is going to be stepping in and starting from Day 1?  This year's playoffs prove that you don't have to have a QB drafted in the top 5.  We have Hurts drafted in the 2nd round, Mahomes was drafted 12th or 10th, something like that.  And of course Mr. Irrelevant in SF.  So there is hope that you can score a QB somewhere other than the top 5. But to expect them to step in right away and be the starter on a winning team is not realistic, particularly Anthony Richardson who was a work in progress in college.  He certainly isn't a plug and play NFL QB.  Trask has had two years with the Bucs system and receivers.  It remains to be seen what the system will be with the new OC.  Is he going to excite anybody?  Yes: The Bucs capologist.  And Bucs fans should show a little more recognition of the cap situation.  They know its there, but they don't want to think about it.  But fans have the same goal as the team.  They want to see a winner in the long run, and the cap plays a huge role in that.  So respect the cap.

And, most importantly, what do all 3 of those QB's have in common with each other aside from draft status?

Oh...I don't know. Maybe that, during the SEC only season (save the bowl game) he threw for 4,283 yards, 43 TD's and only 8 INT's? Over 350 yards per game? In fact, take out his 158 yards from the bowl game, where he had no one decent to throw the ball to (they couldn't get open to save their lives) then it's 4125 yards in 11 games or 375 yards per game, just a touch shy of the 378 Burrow had the year before during a schedule with a several cupcakes in it. In 2020 Mullen dropped most of the RPO stuff and mainly used a lot of NFL concepts, along with some others, and that was the result. I don't know for certain if Trask will make it in the NFL or not, but anyone judging him when he's only played with 3rd, 4th, and 5th string receivers behind makeshift lines is just ridiculous. Hurts looked like utter crap his first year. No look at the dude. Trask has it upstairs, and his arm, while not a cannon, is more than strong enough to throw in any NFL throw. He threw it well over 50 yards in the air on a dime of a pass in the preseason. Needed some work to clean up his mechanics some, but that's it.

So yeah, some of us don't have an irrational hatred of UF QB's. I was fine with Brad Johnson coming here. Didn't care where he played. Nor should anyone care where Trask played. Let him throw behind the starting line to Evans and Godwin, then judge him.

Have zero "UF v FSU" in me, but just wonder if Trask works if the team makes big changes?  Arians liked him, in part, because he's sort of a Brady-mold QB, right? Because he was (according to Arians) big, tall and not afraid to stand in the pocket. Most fans here are calling for a mobile QB, modern offense.  If Bucs agree, what then for Trask?  Does he fit that type of offense? Is he more Burrows than Mahomes? Somewhere in between?

That's a good question. If Bucs hire an OC who needs a mobile QB to make his system work, Trask could be on the outside looking in...

Trask isn't a dual threat QB. He is noticeably more mobile than Brady ever was and can run in a pinch (he tends to run with the desire to run over guys when he does) to maybe get you a few yards, but he's not generally racing for the endzone. He did do a good number of roll outs at UF, so he's not a statue. But let's be honest, the vast majority of QB's that have ever won the big one did so by standing in the pocket and making the throw. Mobile QB's get injured a lot in the NFL and make just as many dumb mistakes as huge plays. You live with it, and often even love it, because of those miracle plays. In the end, however, you can't regularly live on that in the NFL because you'll get your QB killed. Most NFL offenses still revolve around the QB hanging in the pocket and making passes through the air. And, the best way for a QB to help you win is to be healthy and available.

It also never fails to crack me up when people love or hate a player for their NFL team just because of the college team they played for. I hate the Seminoles but loved Derrick Brooks. My dislike of Winston never had anything to do with him being from FSU. I stated before that draft, numerous times, that he would be a turnover machine in the NFL, and he was. I also didn't like his extra curricular activities. I liked Brad Johnson, despite being from FSU. Liked Warren Sapp, despite being from Miami. I like Trask as a potential starter based on how he played in college running a lot of NFL concepts (the pre/post snap reads and throwing a very catchable ball in the right place - accuracy). That he came from UF would only be gravy. If he played a couple of years regularly for us, and sucked, I'd be all in on moving on. Wish more Bucs "fans" could set aside the college rivalry crap when it came to our NFL team.
