Report: NFL teams want to sign Mark Sanchez…to startPosted on January 22, 2014The New York Jets are expected to cut quarterback Mark Sanchez as soon as they can, which will put an unofficial end to that chapter of Jets football. This isn’t a surprise to many, as most have been predicting this move since the team drafted Geno Smith in the 2nd round last year. What is a surprise is the reportedly heavy interest other teams have in him. Logic would lead you to believe that Sanchez is the perfect backup QB, but there are teams that apparently believe he is still starter material. In fact, one anonymous coach said that if they signed Sanchez, he’d be named the starter, now.Via the NY Post:“We’d take Sanchez,” the coach said. “He’d be the starter as soon as he walked in the door for us.” That is quite a bold statement. However, this also proves that the backend of the league is in desperate need of starting quarterbacks. This could be the case for a number of teams that don’t have a clear-cut starter for 2014. The Browns, Jaguars, Raiders, and Texans are the immediate places that come to mind. Of course, the Browns don’t have a head coach or an offensive coordinator, so that is not the place speaking anonymously. There is no reason to not believe that the Jags or the Raiders feel that way. As for the Texans, maybe Bill O’Brien is that confident in himself, but we don’t see how he might think that Sanchez is a better option than drafting a QB with the #1 pick, or what he has inherited. The Vikings are a possibility, but Sanchez doesn’t seem like the right fit for a Norv Turner-led offensive scheme. One team that is entirely possible? Tennessee. Sanchez’s skillset, while not as refined, is similar to that of Phillip Rivers, and we all saw what Whisenshunt was able to do with him this past year, while simplifying the offense. Why would the Jets get rid of a guy that other teams have interest in as a starter, especially when Geno showed very little in his rookie season? Salary. Though Sanchez is still starter material to some, his $13.1 cap figure isn’t justifiable for his production. While serviceable, he simply isn’t worth that kind of money. The Jets can shed the bad contract that was given to him by former GM Mike Tannenbaum, after the teams pursuit for Peyton Manning fell flat 2-years ago. They could have done it last year, but they would have taken an $8 million cap hit. After being the quarterback in a team that reached the AFC Championship game in his first two seasons, Sanchez never really went to the next level with his own play. Those teams didn’t ask him to do much, as Jets were among the leagues best run games and defenses. Regardless, a host of teams think Sanchez is a better option than what they have now, and a QB draft class that really doesn’t have an Andrew Luck/Peyton Manning-type #1 pick. Too bad for him that the team that owns him now isn’t one of them. http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_external/report_nfl_teams_want_to_sign_mark_sanchezto_start/15601370?linksrc ="story_sport_nfl_module_image_15601370"
Boston Markets are everywhere!Enjoy Mark! How about those GQ photo shoots Mark?Adios Dirty.
I do need a new landscaper. Would be easier to replace one Sanchez with another.
lol
until he butt-fumbles the bag of mulch he was carrying
until he butt-fumbles the bag of mulch he was carrying
I would then replace him with a new guy named Smith...cant be that hard to find a Smith either.
I bet NE takes a looksy at him
i say seattle makes a run at him as a backup role.
Bucs, Texans, Titans, Jags, Browns, Vikes... all could have said he'd be the starter for them. Any others?
Freeman got a deal. No doubt Sanchez gets one too.
There is a market for him. Market as a starter, that I have trouble believing.
Sure as hell hope it's not here. Don't want Mr. Gay headband on my team.
Tedford is a PAC12 guy, tho'...

No, Sanchez is actually worse than all of those guys really. I mean if you asked me if I want Sanchez or Henne I'm taking Henne everyday. Locker or Fitz over Sanchez. I mean I literally can't think of a single team where the guy they have isn't better than Sanchez has proven to be. Even on OAK I'd rather see what McGloin has than roll with Sanchez.

Forgot the Raiders. I can't see any team ignoring Sanchez if they are looking to this year's crap draft for a QB. Yeah, he sucks... but a change of teams may get you another Alex Smith style upgrade.
