Back in 2013 I was very big on Jameis Winston. In fact, I said in one thread on here somewhere that I felt Winston is going to be a better pro than any of the QB's in the 2014 draft. Better than Manziel, Bridgewater, Carr, anyone available at the position in the past draft.Somewhere along the line, I got enamored with Marcus Mariota. Somewhere along the line, I thought Mariota would be a better choice for the Bucs. But I was wrong. Dead wrong. Why did I change horses in mid-stream? Maybe I was put off a bit by Winston's off-field issues and liked Mariota's lack of same.In any case, I was dumb to change my mind. I've spent a ton of hours watching as much video of both of these QB's as I could over the past couple of months... in the end, my initial assessment of Winston was correct: from an ability and leadership position, there is no doubt that Winston is by far a better choice for this team right now. Do I wish that his background was pristine? Sure I do. But if his off-field issues don't carry over to this league, there's no reason why he won't be tremendously successful as a quarterback in the NFL.Jameis Winston is worth the risk. Marcus Mariota may turn out to be a fine professional QB, but Winston is CLEARLY worth the risk.I'll take Jameis Winston and I'll be very happy about it.
