I had seen flashes of his but never really watched him. So in anticipation of the Bucs impending disaster of a season I watched him closely this past week. This is the cleanest QB I've ever seen. He's a 6'4 Brees. The only reason he's at UNC is because his dad played QB there also. He was originally an Alabama commit. He would have beaten out Bryce Young.

Caleb Williams is an exotic talent but when I watched him in depth it was alot of "he was wide open" "he was wide open" "ewww why did he throw that" "he was wide open" "he was wide open" "eww why did he thrown that". Remember this is the same coach and system that Baker and Murray won the Heisman in and got them drafted #1 overall.

If Maye and Williams switched teams there would be no debate.

Yes! It’s 1A 1B for me but both would absolutely be the top QB in this years class

should be a great draft to pick in the top 5 if your biggest need is on offense!

QBs Drake Maye and Caleb Williams, LT Olumuyima Fashanu and Joe Alt, WR Marvin Harrison Jr and TE Brock Bowers... pick your poison!

I'd be happy with either... would prefer Drake.

Watched him play my Ducks in the Holiday bowl and he was electric.

Hadn't watched him much before that but he dominated

Would gladly take him but they will be 1 and 2 overall. So we'd have to win under 4 games to have a shot

The QB from Washington could be a good pick.  If you get obsessed with him you'll have Penix envy.

To get to the #1 or #2 pick is going to take a true tank job. The Bucs just aren't going to do that.  You can say what you want about the talent, but to get that high takes a willingness from the front office to trade players to lose games and get draft capital and actually.  Jason Licht is not going to do that.   We know him pretty well, and what would ever give you the idea he would change his stripes and adopt that philosophy?  He's not going to.

Vegas has the O/U at 6.5.  So for the sake of your scenario, lets say the Bucs suck and win 6 games.  That would put them at about the 7th pick or so.

The Panthers gave up two firsts, two seconds and DJ Moore to move up from 10th to 1st. They got their guy.  However, the key thing was the Bears didn't need a QB bad enough.

You have to hope one of the top two teams (Caleb Williams projects to be #1) doesn't need a QB.  Highly possible, so lets go with the assumption one of the two top teams is willing to trade down.  You want to move up from late single digits (maybe pick 7 or so) to #1 or 2.    Then of course you are in a bidding war.

Here's what I'm getting at.  How much would you pay to satisfy your obsession?:

Very unlikely Maye ends up a Buc. Or Caleb.

This franchise likes to do things backwards. Everyone with a bit of smarts knows the best thing for the organization would having a rebuilding year which allows to draft one of the elite QB's next year. Winning should not be a priority. But Bowles and co will want to scrape every win to save their jobs.

It's why the team has already started marketing Mayfield and not so much Trask as he's going to be the starting QB. He has enough experience to game manage some games and scrape those wins Bowles desperately desires.

When in reality Trask should be starting. If he sucks our reward is an elite QB in the draft. If he doesn't they have a young QB to work with (they invested a 2nd round pick in).

The result of doing things backwards will mean having to use a lot more assets to trade up or miss out on one of the elite QB's and be stuck in no mans lands as a franchise once again.

You're misinterpreting the Over/Unders. Those numbers are designed to get an equal amount of action on both sides so they can just collect the vig as profit. 6.5 is actually tied for 2nd lowest in the league. The lowest they have is 4.5 and the highest is 11.5, but 11 teams finished outside of that window last year.

Bowles last 3 seasons with the Jets were 5-11, 5-11 and 4-12. He went 8-9 with Tom Brady pulling 4 games out of his ass.

But to answer your question, yes. Two first and two seconds for Maye if we have to.

Side note. What the Texans did this past draft was beyond stupid. There are atleast 5 players next draft that would have been #1 this year.

Would for sure trade the picks.

Arizona seems decimated, plus having Houston's 1st, they seem destined for #1 and Caleb. Their 2nd 1st could be available for trade though... Unless they wanted to pair Caleb with MHJ which would be wild.

Conceding the #1 pick as Caleb Williams  is a conditioned response based on what the media tells you.

Maye is at UNC because he’s a legacy. If he was at Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama he would have run away with the Heisman and natty.

So it’s only possible to like CWilliams if you’re a lemming for the media? That’s laughable, as is the notion that Maye was required to go to UNC. He wasn’t.

Both players are excellent prospects. It’s OK to say so.

I like Penix a lot too. Another qb that torched by Ducks.

He can thread it...

I've seen Penix going around 17 but the draft always moves qbs up.

I've seen Bo Nix as high as 18 but as much as I love my Ducks, I'd much rather have Penix (or Maye or Williams obv).

Penix would likely be a steal in the mid first

But are they, "We need to sign Freeman to a max deal good"?

You can like Caleb Williams. He has + traits. But the #1 overall rhetoric coming from the media is more based on the system he's in and talent around him, not him actually being the best player in the draft class. He's at best #3 and maybe even behind the Penn St LT
