Just taking a pulse of the board since we have some new blood in the house. A couple buddies and I had some serious conversations about the hire and we all are in favor of Lovie becoming the next coach. While we all think our team will be lights years better under Smith; there was some real concern with the offense. A few questions that came up are, Are we sure Tedford isn't just doing this to bolt for the next coaching job that comes his way? What has Lovie shown in the past regarding his commitment to any type of real offense? Will they address the slot receiver issues? Is a QB warranted in the first round?Even though Tedford is the OC will Lovie have his hands in any of the offensive philosophy? (This question came up because even though Dungy was a "D" mined coach he had an hand in some of the "O" as well as Schiano)Those were just some of the question that we all discussed. I figured I'd toss the question onto the board to see what you all's thoughts were.
Not with Tedford running the show. The Fan had Brian Urlacher on the show yesterday and said that Lovie pretty much gave his OC in Chicago to leeway to run the offense as they saw fit to do. Tedford knows what he's doing.
Hilarious, I blurted out laughing so loud at work.
IMHO Lovie has had a whole year to ponder this and I'm confident he chose Tedford wisely.
I think we landed a pretty good OC but time will tell. Glennon will get the chance to prove himself year two.
I'm concerned about our "O" in general.
The case piles up against Tedford because of the staggering offensive incompetence. Maynard vacillates from hot to cold on any given day. The Bears seem to run too much when they should pass more and pass too much when they should run more There is no rhyme or reason to the offense, and they are performing well below their expectation level.
Yeah, a little...
wow, that sucks
I have my concerns. Hope Lovie made the right choice there.

You have to look at a body of work and not a isolated game or even year to get a handle on someone. This does *mildly* concern me, but I think over all, Tedford's body of work indicates that he'll be a good OC. Also, remember he was HC during the above and may have let his OC call the plays during that stretch - it's always hard to know who's to blame or who should get the credit.

The article isn't about one game, tho'... despite the link name.
You would have to be stupid not to be concerned but the good news is when you are ranked 32nd there is only one direction to go.
I guess you have to be a bit concerned about an unproven offensive scheme in the NFL.Lovie will surely let his OC do his thing so we just have to have a bit of faith at this point. Two main ingredients that makes an offense work are great schemes and great personnel. All of this talk about an offensive minded head coach being needed are rubbish.Look at Brian Billick as an example. His Minnesota teams with Moss and Culpepper averaged over 30 ppg but once he was hired in Baltimore they could never come close to that. Same schemes, different personnel. An offensive minded head coach doesn't guarantee offensive success.

I had to stop reading the article you posted there because of this gem:"No Zach Maynard zone-reads (at least none I remember where he ended up keeping the football)."If the defense plays the zone read to force the handoff to the RB, that has nothing to do with the OC. Honestly that Stanford team was much more talented than the Cal team. Harbaugh left the program in great shape.
