2014 NFL Draft: Scouts believe Jadeveon Clowney lacks pass-rush movesBy Joe Soriano - Feb 1st, 2014 at 12:09 pmSouth Carolina Gamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (7) runs off the field after the second quarter of the Capital One Bowl against the Wisconsin Badgers held at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports Former South Carolina Gamecocks star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is the most hyped defensive prospect in quite some time, and he could very well be the best prospect in the 2014 NFL Draft. In terms of raw talent and physical tools, nobody tops Clowney, but the safety of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who doesn’t have a glaring hole in his game, could make him the better overall prospect. With the Houston Texans most likely set to take a QB at the top, it is possible that Clowney could fall outside the top five and into the Atlanta Falcons arms if the Oakland Raiders choose to pass up on him at pick No. 5 (the St. Louis Rams at No. 2 are the only team that don’t have a significant need at QB and are prepared to trade down, but it’s doubtful that a team looking to trade up would trade up for Clowney over a QB). Even if Clowney falls out of the top five, there’s no doubt that he’s a top five prospect. He has the physical tools to dominate on any given play, and the work ethic concerns seem exaggerated. He does have some risk to him, but almost every prospect in the history of the draft carries risk with him. I mean, I remember back when Blaine Gabbert was a so-called safe pick. Clowney didn’t have the best stats last season, but they were still solid and his tape checked out fine. But there seems to be one perfectly legitimate concern regarding Clowney’s game, and it has to do with his polish as a pass rusher. According to Sports on Earth’s excellent Russ Lande, NFL scouts (Lande used to be an NFL scout himself) believe that Clowney lacks “real pass-rush moves”, and Lande does an excellent job of outlining Clowney’s issues and rawness as a pass rusher. There’s no doubting his run defense, but there are holes in his game as a pass rusher due to a lack of polish. But of course, he has so much talent that he’ll get better once his technique is coached up and he learns those moves. That’s where the “character” concerns come in, as there are still some people who are worried that he isn’t coachable, even if, as Lande writes, people within the South Carolina program back him up. http://nflspinzone.com/2014/02/01/2014-nfl-draft-scouts-believe-jadeveon-clowney-lacks-pass-rush-moves/
Take him at 7 for sure.
who gets polished in college? im running to the podium if hes there...and i do realize hes still a big risk.
If he's NOT the top guy on our board to be taken at #7, this would seem to be an almost certain opportunity to trade down. I'd be asking for a #1 AND a #2. HOWEVER, he is in my mind the hardest guy to pass up. And Cullen would go absolutely NUTS....
So the best prospect in the draft who also happens to be our biggest need falls to us at 7...and we are writing article about whether we should take him????
He will not be there, stupid question. Next?
Dumb article. He is obviously our selection.
I hope he's gone by #7 so we don't waste our pick on the biggest bust in waiting from this draft.if he's a high pick all his motivation is gonna vanish and he'll be lucky to finish out his first contract without being released. He has little to no love for the game which you need to see from an investment in such a high pick, he's more interested in getting paid and being famous.Sure he seems to have great natural talent but his attitude stinks.
Article is stupid on 2 levels .1. He won't be there.2. He would be the no brainer pick , of course.
It's more likely we pick him at 4 than at 7.
If he is there at 5 I could easily see us trading with Oakland to leapfrog Atlanta to take him. We take Clowney at 5 and at 7 Oakland can take either Carr/Watkins. I think Jacksonville is a wildcard for Clowney though, with their HC being a defensive mind from Seattle who knows how important a pass rush is, than they take a Qb in the 2nd or trade that pick for someone like Cousins or Mallet.
He won't be there at 7. This is pretty dumb to even question whether or not to take him. I guarantee that if he's there at 7 we set a new record for fastest time getting our pick in.And he lacks pass rush moves?? Please. Even if he does his technique is so good already that it won't take him long to put it together.
He will not be there, stupid question. Next?
^^^^^Exactly
That would be a steal haha.
If he is there and there is a little chance he could be, it would be a no brainer.
