but again, this extension was done in summer of 2025 after coaching staff was only assembled.  They would have done this extension in January 2025 after Coen bailed on us if this were the case

I think someone mentioned the potential "we dont need you anyway" aspect of this. Its not hard to imagine -- if you put yourself in that timeframe - the Glazers giving both an extension when they did to help bolster the team ticket selling prospects (ie the team has a plan etc) and give them both the best chances going forward.  Thats why I mentioned its pennies, relatively speaking.

That looks like a bad choice now, of course, but I am only offering an explanation for then.  In fact, SR even touches on the potential firing in his Fab 5 with the Gruden firing we already discussed and this:

What I do know is that former Bucs general manager Mark Dominik told me the week before the 2013 season finale at New Orleans that both he and former head coach Greg Schiano were told they were safe. That despite a 0-8 start to Schiano’s second season that year, the Bucs then won four out of their next five games and were showing enough progress to avoid regime change – even though the Bucs dropped two more games in December to sink to 4-11.

But Tampa Bay got crushed by New Orleans, 42-17, in the season finale, and both Schiano and Dominik were fired the next day. Did the Glazers give Dominik a very false sense of security? Or were they truly safe until the unfortunate Week 17 outcome against the Saints changed the Glazers’ minds at the last minute?"

a lot of time (and losses) have passed since summer of 2025

extending Bowles helping sell tickets?  You are losing me.

i am pretty sure fans have been calling for Bowles head throughout his tenure, and especially last year with the phenom Coen leaving the nest.

Obviously his seat has never been hotter given the embarrassing collapse, but hard to phantom Bowles had many supports in summer 2025.

i'd say you had about 50% of the bucs fans that wanted him gone prior to 2025 season, another 25% that were like me that could have seen why he's employed still, and another 25% that were pro Todd Bowles.

Those percentages now are about 95%, 4% and 1% respectively.

Boles & Licht together. Thats why I said it may look dumb now, but then, in the summer of 2025, the messaging by the Bucs "securing the leadership that has helped  . . ."

Jason Licht, Todd Bowles Sign Multi-Year Extensions

On Thursday, the Buccaneers announced the signings of General Manager Jason Licht and Head Coach Todd Bowles to contract extensions, securing the leadership that has helped guide the franchise to the most successful five-year stretch in its history

Hardly an uncommon marketing approach

I wasnt suggesting Bowles sells tickets lol.  I was suggesting the summer of 2025, late June and July, is big "50th season" season ticket/group ticket marketing push

As I have posted here a bunch of times, the Red Board is not very representative of the Bucs ticket purchasing base, its much more representative of a minority of hard core fans. The ticket base is filled with people that the Red Board trolls would dismiss as "casuals" lmao.

Not sure when you were last to a Bucs game, but at least in my experience the season tick seats are filled with lots of corporate entertaining types (and away fans).  Not saying they are NOT Bucs fans, just that they are more "30,000 foot view" fans.  "The Bucs are good." "The Bucs are bad," as compared to "why is the ILB dropping into coverage!!" Thats why I mentioned the marketing of "the leadership that has given us the most successful 5 years" etc.

X is sure to be more like the Red Board lmao
