Is it time for plan B? Mar 14, 2015, 6:48pm16631648190_59167A3221_O.jpgI have this strange feeling the longer we go into free agency, that maybe the future is to trade down, ransack someone’s draft, load up on rookie linemen (both sides) and then go into 2015 with Napoleon in command. Before I go any further I will disclose that I am firmly in the Winston camp, and wouldn’t be opposed to signing the Kraken either. It seems to me that someone in the organization, most likely the Glazers themselves, do not want any troubled souls on the team. While Licht can talk about boy scouts in public, I am not seeing a single moral dilemma on this roster. I just can’t see that changing with drafting Jaboo, nor can I see them pursuing Hardy, nor can I see them going after Vick… etc. etc.But even given all that, I think LiLo are looking at this and thinking that they can no longer afford a rookie QB from a purely job security standpoint. They have half a line on each side of the ball, and minimal depth at just about every position.I wonder if maybe they had plans to attack free agency aggressively and just couldn’t get people here without breaking the bank. Last year they recruited based on potential. This year they have no such luxury. Is it time for plan B? Trade down in the 6-10 range, pick up a stud edge rusher and a couple extras in rounds 2-4 plus futures, and then secure LT, RG, and depth everywhere else. Find a career back-up to hold Glennon’s clipboard. This actually puts our FO in a great position with the Glazers. If we end up going 8-8 or better, they can claim to have known about Glennon all along and were just doing injury prevention last year when they benched him. They will look like visionaries and now go into 2016 with extra high draft picks and start preparing for VJax and Mankins’ retirement and sign Glennon on a long-term (shudder) deal.If we suck again and wind up drafting high in 2016, then the FO can say everyone needed time with the new offensive scheme and also we have multiple high draft picks again. Then we can spend another offseason arguing over QB prospects! I hear the Big 10 has a lot of promising talent...Why this makes sense:The free agent pool is more like the free agent puddle.Dirk Koetter might *really* like GlennonLovie obviously believes he can win with a mid-level QBLicht might be afraid to kill his first overall pick with that O lineWhy this doesn’t make sense:Actually after sitting down and putting this all into words, I’m starting to believe myself. I think this might actually be our plan for the future. In fact, maybe this was the plan all along?Oh well, at least the Lightning are legit contenders!link
