Yes they can still block from a promotion.There is an unwritten rule that you don't do that to guys , and it is extremely frowned upon , but you could do it if you wanted. It would hurt Cowboys chances of getting good assistants in the future if they do.What they will likely do is fire Monte and offer Marinellli their DC gig.
Jerry Jones is in the squirmin' seat right now, trying to save face with fans and media, as much as anything. Just find SOME way to put a positive spin on his situation. If he fires Kiffin, which I suspect he'd like to do, Rod's already turned down the Bear's DC position and likely would do the same in Dallas. Then Jones may be relying on Kiffin to try and convince Rod to stay in Dallas. A real soap-opera on the DEFENSIVE side in big D.
