Is mediocrity OK now when it wasn’t in 2006? by Gil Arcia December 26, 2013 The 2006 Tampa Bay Buccaneers were four years removed from a Super Bowl victory and still carried a star-studded roster. But even with its roster and head coach Jon Gruden, the team posted a 4-12 record. During the NFL owners meetings the following offseason, then vice president and current Co-Chairman Joel Glazer spoke to Tampa Tribune’s Ira Kaufman about the disappointing 2006 season.“Nobody is looking away from 4-12,” Glazer said in March of 2007. “Mediocrity will never be standard for the Buccaneers, but we have to move on. Two years ago, we were 11-5 and won our division. We’re not going to hang our hat on that or hang our hat on 4-12.”The Buccaneers head into their final game of the season with the potential of finishing with the exact 4-12 record like 2006. What that season followed though was an 11-5 season and a division title. This season follows a 7-9 record in 2012 that saw the team lose five of its final six games and translated into losing their first eight this season.Ownership will have their hands full after this week. The team is 15-31 in the last three seasons pending this week’s game. That may be worse than mediocre and if mediocrity is not acceptable, then some major changes should be expected, right?Follow Gil on Twitter: @GilArciaTBC http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_external/is_mediocrity_ok_now_when_it_wasnt_in_2006/15392500
So if mediocrity wasn't ok in 2006 why did they wait until 2008 to fire gruden. My 7 year old could write a better article.

I was thinking the same thing while reading it, I guess based on that article we've only got 2 more years of Schiano left before they fire him for the poor season we're having now.

Hate to say it, but that may be the way it actually plays out. As depressing as that thought is, they would save a ton of money going that route.
Should be looking for that contract extension, tho'...

When should we expect it? I'd love to read it.

The money argument doesn't make sense to me. Glazers were willing to eat $7 million to let Freeman go, but won't eat $9 million to fire Schiano?

Or...they could look at it as, we already blew 7mil getting #5 out of here, so lets not blow any more pesos for awhile.
Does anyone have a clip of Glazer boy saying that exact quote? I don't believe he actually said that because we all know mediocrity actually is the standard here. Long as money is coming in, who cares about the rest, right Glazer boys?

sorry I meant video footage
Only the weak minded or bias think keeping schiano is a good idea.It would prove how big the glazers ego or apathy really is. From there, we will decide what we shall do in return. Easy guess what that will be..
A team of old guys with a coaching staff completely splintered within and with management? Not even a close comparison.

How would they "save money" by doing that? People here really would make poor businessmen.Decision about Schiano won't have anything to do about his contract. His contract is freaking peanuts. He's less tha a year of Nicks on the bench, Freeman in Minny Quincy Sucking, Clayton sucking, Ward busting, Price busting, etc, etc...His contract dollars mean nothing. NOTHING.
