I think when Barrett came to us he was sort of a situational pass rusher who had never had double digit sacks? He had a lot of great competition for snaps in Denver, but didnt he explode when he got here?

If that premise is even close to correct (lol), is there a Shaq Barrett in this years FA class?

I’m sure there is. However, I could see a scenario where we re-sign Shaq. Could be that with the re-sign we buy some good will, and hope for a bounce-back season from Shaq.

This would require a ‘consideration’ by Shaq, which would be in-line with his current condition(s)…what is testing the market going to hurt?

There are options, but the one’s I’ve seen, that are in our price range, don’t really jump off the page.

i mean i am sure there are but certainly hard to find or pin point.   Plus, we will never know until they explode onto the scene!

Shaq signed a 1 year, 5M deal with us and as you recall correctly, he was nothing special in Denver. He exploded in 2019 with 19.5 sacks and has sort of been mediocre ever since despite being a really likeable guy.

in 2020 and 2021 , we averaged 9 sacks a year and was pivotal in our Superbowl run but would hardly suggest the Bucs were thinking 9 sacks was the new standard when they signed him to an 18M per year deal.  They were probably hoping they found their new Simeon Rice who would put up 12-15 sacks every year.

2022 derailed by injuries and 2023 looks like the new norm for Shaw 4.5 sacks; certainly it's unfortunately time to move on.

Yaya Diaby had a pretty solid rookie year with 7.5 sacks.  The hope would be is that he could get to double digit this year with full slate of starting games.

Nelson/JTR can be the back-ups

Jadeveon Clowney signed with the Ravens a 1 year deal worth 2.5M and up to 6M.  He had 9.5 sacks last year and never has reached double digits - if we can sign him to a 1 year deal, 8M; think that's worth it and likely beats Shaq's production

also would like to see us potential add a guy in the draft, first round or two.

Whoa… not sure about that JClowney take…has me shuddering. The potential is there for improvement, just depends on whether Jjeckel or Jhyde shows up…

i mean i certainly dont trust him but we need a veteran too.

If we are defining JTR as the veteran in the edge rusher room, we are in trouble.

and unfortunately JPP is washed up worse than Shaq even.

Maybe the one-year-deal is the perfect way to sign JClowney to give you the best shot for the right outcome?

With the amount of time we’ve dedicated to FA’s on the edge, maybe Bowles makes that push for edge - depends on how the draft falls - he’s got to be licking his Chop’s (Robinson?) …

Every individuals negotiation/situation is different, just as each team’s limitations/capabilities are different.
