Before we are contender again. Jason will have to trade some of our best players in order to stock pile some 1st,2nd abd 3rd picks for the next three years. It may take longer, Jason isn't that great at drafting. The GM did not take advantage of Brady being here. He could have built a contending roster for the next 10 years if Jason spent the money properly. Gronk leaving seems like he still wants to play shows he wasn't happy. Beasley saw it too. Even though he is insane, AB situation may have some truth to it.Now Brady most likely gone. This is like winning a million dollars and some how we all blew the money.
Brady wasn’t good enough this year , he has as much blame as the rest …. very average year from him
much of the reason the Bucs won the superbowl in addition to Brady wanting to come here was because they drafted well for a 3-4 year stretch and added some key pieces that worked out - Godwin, Wirfs, Jensen, Marpet, JPP, Shaq, Vea, White, Davis, Dean, Winfield, Suh - all solid picks and additions in that stretch to help build the core in addition to Brady followers ( fournette, Gronk, AB) and existing core guys - evans, David.
now fast forward to how they drafted in 2021, 2022
tryon looks to be a bust or mediocre rotational guy at best. Don’t see double digit sacks in him. Wasting a second rounder on Trask when he clearly wasn’t the future was borderline retarded pick as well drafting a kick returner. Hainsey looks like half decent pick in third but only hitting on one pick was not how they performed in 2017-2020 drafts
the 2022 draft class consisted of Logan hall claim to fame of ending Jensen season. Other than that….almost didn’t even knew the guy played. Luke certainly looks like a back up to me. Jury still out on White as hard to judge based on poorest play calling this year so we will give him another year to judge. Otton def wasn’t on same page with Brady a lot except for a couple clutch TDs but jury out on him.
the approach to free agency in 2021 was awesome. Brought back the entire team that won you a superbowl. Kudos
but then not sure what they were thinking in 2022. Gage was a waste of money. Julio didn’t work out but was worth the risk. Not bringing back JPP and Suh on the deals they took with eagles and ravens was suspect given more the merry on rotation. hicks played good but let him walk.
as if 13-4 and a second round playoff exit wasn’t good enough to say hey let’s try to keep the same guys and maybe upgrade a WR threat etc. they got cocky thinking they can upgrade with perennial losers in gage hicks etc
gronk didn’t do them any favors waiting until late summer to announce retirement either.
For those with short term memories the Bucs spent many years after the 2002 Super Bowl tethered to the fiction that the team at its core was still very talented and a winner and just needed some minor adjustments to win.
it’s didn’t go well.
Even with Brady this team was not that good. The best thing for the Bucs long term is to rip off the band aid BUT it’s hard to do that when only the season before your ROH Super Bowl winning coach told everyone this years team was the most talented in his time (lmao)
Vance wrote "trade some of our best players in order to stock pile some 1st,2nd and 3rd picks for the next three years."
It is doubtful that the Bucs would get anything better than a 3rd round pick for any of the current Bucs players. I wish the Bucs could, but being realistic the only player that I see could get better than a 3rd round draft pick is Wirf's.
That 02 team was a combo of being a fluke and Gruden being terrible at talent evaluation. Good coach but leave him off the decision making roster building.
by fluke I mean journeyman QB leading a top D like Trent dilfer ravens or striking lightening at right time giants 08 and 11 super bowls or Nick foles led eagles
2003 was disappointing with a lot of close losses - but that was the beginning of end with Keyshawn fiasco and getting rid of sapp and lynch.
it was also at a time where the league started to become more of an offensive driven league and we just couldn’t draft for shit to help adapt as Gruden would try to use veterans to compete
and to be honest we did in 05, 07 and 08. Matter of fact they decided to blow it up in 09 to 19 and we sucked sans maybe 2 years through that span playoffless
if we were able to draft consistently good (17-20) I’d be more positive but 21 draft was brutally bad
.... or they could win the division next year. Firstly, There are 32 teams and one Superbowl to win. So if you do the math the average team will win a Superbowl every 32 years. So to be depressed that the Bucs don't appear to be Superbowl bound in 2023 frankly just shows that you are spoiled because of Brady.
The division will likely have the worst set of starting quarterbacks in NFL history, unless one of them gets involved in the free agent frenzy for the couple of decent QBs that will be available. You think the Bucs are stuck at QB? Well which team are you envious of?
NFC South QBs:
Bucs: Kyle Trask
Falcons: Desmond Ridder, Logan Woodside. (Marcus Mariota will cut).
Panthers: Matt Corral (Sam Darnold is a FA)
Saints: Jameis Winston, Jake Luton. (Andy Dalton is a FA).
The Bucs have as talented a roster as any of the NFC South and could easily go 9-8 or 10-7 and win the division again. So if that doesn't give you at least some hope, then I suggest you are just spoiled. That's understandable, and a lot of Bucs fans are in that same boat, but nevertheless spoiled you are. So the best thing to do for all involved is to put the Brady Bucs in the rear view mirror and try to look at some of positives which are we will have a new OC and some pretty good players still on the roster next year on both sides of the ball.
I don’t know if you are related to trask but the Bucs will be battling for #1 draft pick with him starting
QB position is important. Bucs have some talent but likely looking at 4 wins next year with trask starting
also feel if they go with trask you won’t see them try in free agency or anything. Likely cut cost to save for future years

I predict Trask will be #1 at the START of training camp. They will probably bring in Gabbert again and a low budget option like Minshew. They will wait for the main QBs to sign and then see who they can scrape from the bottom of the barrel for under $10 mil non-guaranteed. Because if Trask does take charge, they will want to be able to cut that guy loose with minimal damage before the season. But nobody knows what Trask will actually do with the opportunity if he gets it. It's just that the Bucs have cap issues and need to have a starting QB on the rookie pay scale and they'll give Trask every opportunity to be that guy.
I'm just telling you the objective reality of the situation. I'm just the messenger, so if you don't agree with me that's fine. But I don't care who is the QB of the Bucs next year as long as they can win some games. The only reason I would like to see Trask succeed is the same reason as the Bucs, because it would be good for the team to have the starting QB on the rookie payscale! That's my only emotions regarding the QB position. Don't you agree with that????

He wasn’t good enough to overcome the shortcomings of his OC?
Are you FINALLY ready to put the majority blame on the guy you’ve blown for the last 18 months?
Are you actually man enough to do it?
time to rip the bandaid off this mess - including using Evans as trade bait for draft choices

There’s no need to trade Evans.
If he wants to finish his career in Tampa, then you make it happen.
Same with LVD.
Two future Canton inductees.
where do people come up with this stuff?
mess? We have made the playoffs 3 years in a row with a Superbowl.
We haven't had this kind of success since 1997-2002 where we made playoffs 4 out of 5 years capped with a Superbowl.
the difference between that successful run and this one was that we have some younger talented pieces in place. Now, if Brady retires or leaves us, the two demerits we have to that run our better coaching (Dungy/Gruden) versus Bowles and obviously having the GOAT catapulted us as we were likely a 4 win team without him in 2022.
Adding a Jimmy G or Carr will keep us competitive and likely win the division again. If Brady comes back and we just need to re-load a bit, then even better.
Trading Evans who wont have much trade value turning 30 is ridiculous. Not only from a competitive stand point but from a business view point as well. Yeah let's trade a fan favorite future HOF. Imagine a QB coming into a situation with evans and godwin. Not a bad start for them. Hell, they made Jameis look presentable.
Many teams real struggle OVER TIME with any pick outside of a premium 1st round picks, so the notion of trading a key player for a pick has to be, statistically speaking, a more likely loser than turnaround plan. I am sure it works sometime, but overall and overtime maybe not? Don't know

The "mess" is the QB-less team with $40-60 mil over the cap with several key players hitting free agency with a team who has absolutely no prospects for a decent OC joining a lameduck coaching staff......
