When he was asked to interview for the Texans head coaching job, Lovie Smith was sent a round-trip ticket from Chicago to Houston on a commerical flight. Good read. I think Lovie's availability is what sealed Schiano's fate. Interesting about his son Matt being an agent with IMG. Good for him
I agree. If Lovie hadn't been available, I think Schiano may have gotten another year.

In that situation I would have been afraid to say no.....lol
LOL

Without any inside knowledge I feel the same way. If Smith was still employed I think the bucs would have held on to Greg just to save money. Lovie is such an unbelievably perfect fit it was hard to pass up. Anyone know when was the last time the bucs got the coach they actually had targeted as the top guy.
While I think lovie is a big improvement, I also would've liked them to have done a better search.

Gruden was the Glazers 1st choice but not the FO; IIRC this is the 1st time that they've gotten a marque HC without FO interference. i could of course be wrong so please correct me if i am as it's a damn good question lol

I have no doubts what so ever that you are 100% correct.
Well, if we believe that's true, then we also have to believe that the owners were willing to do what it takes and spend whatever it takes to get it done.

Nope, Gruden was plan B after Parcells once again left the Glazers standing at the altar. Dungy had been a consolation prize after failing to secure Parcells as well. I guess technically you could say Raheem was their first choice when they decided to replace Gruden, but we all know that move was motivated by a desire to save money rather than a desire to win.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't even plan B

Spurrier was the target before Dungy, too.

So it's not that Schiano was a lousy coach who had a lower winning percentage than Raheem Morris, it's just that there was this one guy who happened to be available we had to have.

No - I actually think Raheem was driven by letting Mike Tomlin slip away. They saw the Steelers - who pretty much exclusively build through the draft and ignore Free Agency I might add - take their guy from right under their noses and didn't want to make the same mistake with Raheem who was at the time perceived as the next coming of a Tomlin type coach.
