Michael Bennett won't get Seahawks' franchise tag By Chris Wesseling    Around the League Writer  NFL.comPublished:  Feb. 20, 2014 at 05:46 p.m. Bennett_Zps3D70C9Bf.jpgNew York Giants' Martellus Bennett, right, walks the field with his brother Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Michael Bennett before an NFL football game Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in East Rutherford, N.J. (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)INDIANAPOLIS -- In Around The League's franchise tag primer, Gregg Rosenthal listed Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett as a potential candidate to receive the designation before the March 3 deadline. After general manager John Schneider's Thursday press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine, we now know that won't be happening.Asked by Around The League if the franchise tag is a possibility for Bennett, Schneider replied, "I don't anticipate that. No."NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this month that the Seahawks are confident in their ability to re-sign the premier pass rusher of their Super Bowl run.Bennett isn't the only key free agent Schneider hopes to bring back. Wide receiver Golden Tate is a "big priority," according to Schneider."Golden knows where we stand," Schneider added. "He knows how much we love him."The Seahawks have some tough decisions to make in the next month. If Bennett and Tate are re-signed, the salaries of high-priced veterans such as Sidney Rice, Zach Miller and Chris Clemons might have to be jettisoned.Hardy_Zps2Bd8041B.pngGreg Hardy | Defensive LinemanCarolina PanthersSpeaking Thursday, GM Dave Gettleman called RE Greg Hardy part of the Panthers' free agency "puzzle," but emphasized the team is "cap-challenged.""What we have to do is be very thoughtful in planning our cap, planning our strategy, planning our budget," Gettleman said. Hardy is reportedly looking to top the six-year, $78 million deal the Panthers gave Charles Johnson in July 2011, which would make him extremely hard to retain. The $12.5 million franchise tag for defensive ends would chew up roughly two-thirds of Carolina's cap space. Feb 20 - 4:43 PMSource: Charlotte Observer

With all the cap room we'll have after cutting the fat off of our roster I would sign both of them.
