"Per reliable OverTheCap.com, Dean is now being paid $4.25 million for the 2025 season via a new agreement signed in 2025. No longer does he have a deal for 2026, so Dean would be a free agent after this season. FOX Sports NFL reporter Greg Auman wrote on X that he can confirm the information.

This represents nearly an $8 million pay cut for Dean in 2025."

He is part of so many bad plays yesterday, from negating a sack with a lazy face mask to dropping an INT to giving up 1st downs and more.  BUT, how motivated is a guy who took such a big pay cut to keep his job? Maybe because free agency now looms?

He gets a bit of a salary, but added to that is $750K per game roster bonus.    Next year was not guaranteed anyway and there's no way he was going to get $13 mil.  He would have been cut anyway.  I suppose this way the Bucs can't string him along through the offseason.  He's free to shop himself as soon as the season is over, he doesn't have to wait until the league year starts.

Another win for Licht.  Dean is playing for his job one game at a time at 750 a pop.  I'd say that's an incentive if there ever was one.

ever time he gets burned badly he feigns injury and misses a game or two.  Once both our rookie CBs are playing and up to speed he instantly slips to 4-5 on the depth chart competing with Vildor..Good move on Licht's part

I am so ready to turn the page on this guy. As physically gifted as he is, he just has bad IQ and feel for the game. Its crazy because he is a very experienced player at this point but he just has too many hiccups. He let a Falcons WR get behind him last few seconds of the game but was fortunate that guy quit on the route. Would've been the game losing play as seconds expiring. Benjamin Morrison needs to hurry up and get healthy so he can get valuable game reps.

Penix is the real deal btw

I am right there with you.

If you consider that he is now playing in a contract year and so wants to put the best film he can out there, how do es he put on film the mental lapse you mention, dropped INT, a facemask to negate a sack. .. etc.

Yep, best way to keep Dean from feigning injury to pout after another poor performance, is to adjust his contract to put him in make contract year… hope he has the ability, but if not, can’t wait to see Benjamin Morrison take this position.

The Dean hate runs strong here. Outside of a play or two he held his own very well against London. 8 catches for 55 yards on 15 targets.

Curious about how much is Dean and how much was McCollum, but the thing about Dean is not that he cannot play corner, its that he undercuts it with all the other problems.

So, in the playoff game he's doing a great job against McLaurin, but then of course gets hurt.  In this game, if we accept he is a big reason for the good result defending London, you still have the face mask and letting a guy run by him late etc.

Not an easy position, for sure.

And he cant catch a cold! Paying 10M+ for corners that can't generate turnovers is absurd. He's not a terrible player by any means because lord knows we've seen tons of trash CB's lined up here. But we can do better and we have options to make an improvement with Morrison imo.

I wonder if that is what Arians was suggesting because per JBF he said this post game

"“I think we got a great shot, especially when we get Tristan back, Chris back, Jalen McMillan back and both corners back. We had five starters out of the game,” Arians said."

To be fair, Dean does make several stops.  So does Dennis, actually.  Wide variance

Is Dean going to retire or take a cheap Bucs contract going forward?

"It was just more like I'm comfortable here," Dean said on Thursday, via the Tampa Bay Times. "So it's just really not about the money anymore. I'm not in the mood to try to figure out a whole new team and city and go through all I went through my rookie year. So just to save me a headache."

It's one thing to talk like that in season.  It would be a pain to pull up stakes and move your familly and learn a new system during the season. He''ll probably end up making $6 mil from the Bucs and if he was cut loose what other team is going to pay a lot more?  Probably not any.  But next year he'll be shopping for a new team. The Bucs aren't going to want an injury prone backup CB who can't play special teams.  The two rookies will have a year under their belt.  Time to move on for both parties, and I don't see Dean retiring. He'll get a few million to hook on somewhere if he plays his cards right - depending on his performance this year.
