Ok, lets say coach Smith identifies someone he really likes in this draft and we spend another few years trying to develop him. He is never better than mediocre and another half decade is wasted. Why not just wait until next year to land a QB? It is going to be a much deeper QB class and the FA class is slated to be pretty deep as well IIRC. Plus, we might have a chance at landing Jameis Winston.
Why play the what if game if you only list the negative outcome as a possibility? What if we take a QB and he is the next big thing and becomes a top 10 QB for the next decade? And everyone needs to stop with the nonsense about waiting until next year. We'll win at least 8 games in 2014 and there is no way we can trade down to #1 or #2 to get Mariota or Winston. If we can't get a QB this year, then we can't get a QB....but purposely passing on a QB if one is available because our strategy is to wait until next year.....is 100% retarded. That just isn't how it works.
So your answer is to spend a top 10 pick on a lesser product? Other than BW, none of these QBs would even be considered over the crop of QBs coming out next year.
Says who? Winston is a one year wonder that might or might not continue to be great, might or might not declare next year, and might or might not decide to play professional baseball instead of football. Even if he does choose football and declare next year, what are the chances that we can somehow get the #1 pick?Other than myself, I can't think of anyone that had Mariota ranked above Bridgewater and Manziel.....but now he is? Why? Because he didn't declare and the grass is always greener? And again, if he does declare next year....what are the chances we can get high enough to draft him? The top three guys may not be Andrew Luck, but they are all right there with Cam Newton, RG3, Matt Stafford, and Sam Bradford. Some of you wanna act like this QB class is suddenly as bad as 2011 or 2013....but it's not. These are good QB prospects and we shouldn't be scared to take a shot on one. It's not every year that a Lovie Smith coached team is picking in the top 10. If the opportunity presents itself, we need to go for it.
+1The only thing worse than reaching for a QB would be passing on a great one if he falls to us. THAT would be the biggest nightmare I could think of.

Keep on trying to polish these turds if you wish. You want to reach now for a tiny guy flash in the pan guy with tons of questions about will his game and size translate, and a guy from UCF than hasn't really played anybody and just looks ok doing it. Put these 2 guys in the next draft with Winston, Hundley, Mariota, and Petty. They would be 2nd and 3rd round picks. I would put BW with RG3, Newton, Stafford, and Bradford but not the other "first round" QBs.
Lol....ok bro. Petty and Hundley are better prospects than Manziel and Bortle? Sure. Now you are just basing everything off your very narrow opinion. I don't like Carr, but everyone else does. Even he is a better prospect than Petty or Hundley. Now you are reaching.

Hundley is extremely talented but is raw. He's better prospect than Manziel and Bortles.
If Winston and Mariota were in this draft, they'd go ahead of everyone else. Midway through the college season Mariota was the #1 QB and you know he'd perform well at combine/pro day. But waiting til next year (which I'm not particularly for or against) means you'll have to give up more to get your guy, if you're even able to trade for him at all. Also, Hundley sucks.

So we should reach now?And it's not just reaching.... People want us to trade up for them.

will it matter if we hit?

I would rather trade up for a slam dunk. If they take them at 7 fine.
Reach Wagon is always full of useful idiots this time every year. You guys would make awesome Browns fans.

of course, but a slam dunk QB won't be traded away.

Well there you go. You obviously live in a dream land with unicorns and rainbows because everyone knows there are no slam dunks. Ever.Btw....Hundley is slightly better than Boyd, but not by much. It's hilarious that you think we should wait in hopes of drafting him, but proven studs like Bortles and Manziel are garbage in your eyes.
It's mostly bias jd.They see someone they don't like posting good stuff about manziel, and obviously they have to go the other direction.

BW is close to slam dunk and is worth a trade up for and Manziel is a big question mark and Bortles... What has he done exactly? Proven stud?

Really? Someone I don't like? You think this is Facebook or something?
proven studs like Bortles
LMAO!
