Don't get me wrong Mosley is a good player, but for one I think Mason Foster does a pretty good job in the middle and even Patrick Willis didn't go top 10 and he had a great combine. Unless if we trade down I don't really like the Mosley pick.
Mason will be fine. No need to demote him to the part time position of SLB. MLB is the last thing we need to worry about.
Mason has one year left on his contract and we don't have a SLB linebacker under contract. If you want to keep the cap under control, you sometimes have to just like a okay player eventually move on otherwise you continue to put your team up against the cap. A year from now, you'd wish you had a talent like Mosley in the middle on a cheap rookie deal through 2019 instead of whether we need to pony up 5-6M per year for a okay linebacker.Mosley on the other hand will have instant effect in the middle of the defense, especially if David continues to call the defense so that Mosley just has to work on understanding his role in Lovie's defense. Foster over at SLB will be a beast and perhaps the best strong side guy we've had there since Quarles played there. Add Orakpo, Allen, Tuck or Peppers across from Clayborn and perhaps Melton at the defensive tackle position and you'll have a top 5 defense next year.For me, if we are picking 7th, my two favorites are Watkins or Mosley. Both impact players.
Mosely isn't worth #7. Outside of Kuechly can you think of any other linebacker in the last few years who went top 15 who was a good pick? And Mosely isn't Kuechly.

Agreed, just saying the team has the power here. Lots of cap room and a franchise tag. If they want to keep Mack they will. For the record nobody thinks theres a CB worth $16M either.
Defenses didn't blitz Manziel much. They held back and played contain. I think this made Matthews look a lot better than he really is. I'm no expert at scouting OL, but I hope we stay away from him.
That makes the oline as a unit look better because there's less pressure on the QB but that really has nothing to do with Mathews dominating his one on one matchups.

Not year in and year out, but if it is a temporary fix until they can get a contract done...then it could very much be wroth it for the Browns. Especially when you consider they will likely be using a top 3 pick on a rookie QB.

I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion. When you have the opposing DEs holding back and playing contain all year, rather than pinning their ears back and rushing the QB....it certainly seems like it would affect what you see on tape when watching the LT. I mean, how do we really know he can consistently stop elite pass rushers when he wasn't doing that in college? I'm just weary of the guy.

Patrick Willis could have gone top seven and nobody would question it. He is immensely talented. If Mosely can ball, picking him at 7 or 13 doesn't matter. He fills a need. Potentially, a big one.
I don't see MLB as a big need. We have a good player in Foster. Not every position can be filled with an elite superstar. We should probably concentrate on replacing our bad players before we start trying to upgrade the good ones.
In a new scheme, it may very well read it's ugly head as a problem. Which I foresee already. It doesn't take much thinking to see how this will become an issue. Defensive end is a must. QB competition is a must. Third wideout is a must. Tight end is a must. MLB is a must. Gotta cover them seams. Mase isn't athletic enough to do that. Would love him at SLBer. And I am a Mase fan. Have been.

Yeah because Mosley actually makes plays behind the line of scrimmage. It's a matter of opinion, but I feel that Mosley IS better than Kuechly and would be outstanding in Lovie's defense. Most analysts have Mosley in or around the top 10 in this drafts talent. This draft is deep in quality offensive linemen, I don't think you have to spend a #1 to get one. Again, I think if we can get an impact player at #7, you get him. Watkins and Mosley are two impact players that could be had at our draft position. I wouldn't be unhappy with the Matthews pick, but I think Warhop is going to go with Penn and Dotson this year and look for a tackle to groom for depth. Lovie keeps talking about elite defense, my feeling is that he's going to go defense in round one.
As offenses evolve with more and more explosive TE's, the need for LB's and S's who can cover them increases. Under DC Bill Sheridan Foster, Barron, and Goldson all had issues with coverage. Our new coaches need to determine if their schemes on D will work with these guys, or whether we need some upgrading.
If Mosely didn't have an Alabama A on the side of his helmet, would he be talked about as a top 15 pick? Would he be this touted had he played at a different school? I doubt it. We have seen Alabama defensive players get overhyped over the past few years and this is another case of that happening. He isn't much of an upgrade over Mason.
