Yes, but without that pressure from the front 7 - we have to rely too much on pulling secondary help out of coverage and we saw how that went. Bowles scheme relies on specialists in secondary that can cover and rush, from various secondary positions. We can get that kind of talent in this draft. It’s why I think we concentrate our high draft picks on defensive secondary in this draft.Corners forcing turnovers isn’t the end all be all. I get it.
Whoa (insert player here) has 10 picks?! Splash play. Turnovers win games. Right?
that also means you’re being thrown at a lot.
ball hawk? Or hey we can get a big play if we throw this way against this player.
what has been our weakness on D? Injuries aside, forcing turnovers.
generating pressure improved last year, still did not force many turnovers. It was good to see tykee smith help there.
i want someone that will create turnovers.
whether that’s front 7 or cb. Something our defense desperately needs.
Again, likely depends on who is available.
Good post and good point. Reddick should and will help the pass rush. Albeit on a one year prove it deal. One sack in 10 games last year. Yuck. I’ll give him a mulligan. Solid D he was on but it’s the jets.
the culture in Tampa is much better. If he gets 8-10 sacks he knows he can turn that into a 3-4 year 15-20 mil aav deal most likely. He has a lot to play for.
curious if we will bring Shaq back too. He’s getting up there but he would help. Wouldn’t give him too much. 1 year maybe 3-4 mil?
I love Shaq. I think he thinks he has more left in the tank. I’d give him a chance to see what he can do. He deserves it.
T. Smith and Winfield Jr can force turnovers but really that is why the front seven upgrades make it more straightforward and easist path to victory for defensive success. Adding another DB to the mix that can force turnovers might help somewhat. But Foote has to rev up the edge rushers to ramp up FF and sacks. Pressures are nice but FF and sacks tend to be drive killers to force punts or flip field position. Relying on Smith, Winfield Jr, or 2025 drafted DB to force sacks, fumbles and INTs may be too much. The front seven has to do more. Kancey, Diaby and whomever they draft along with Reddick and Vea have to really play at a higher level.
@alldaway agree, but staying with Just Tykee & AWJ means Izien in the slot. I like the guy, a lot, but I think he showed that he’s more of a quality back-up for short periods.
Getting a big, rangy CB or a great safety in at 19 - while adding a developmental CB later - would make this defense hum.
