EDITED: I went back and watched Ramsey's 2014 tape because I was told that he was much better at safety in 2014 then he was at CB in 2015. I watched the Miami, Notre Dame and Oregon games. I eas surprised to see that he was actually lined up as nickle corner/SLB on over 90% of the plays. Maybe he played safety in his freshman year. This explains why he is listed everywhere as a CB. He did not played much safety in 2014. He played 90% at nickle corner in these games. As you can see by his combine numbers below he is a very good athlete with great measurables.Stats from nfl.com http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/jalen-ramsey?id=2555280 Jalen Ramsey (CB)HT: 6'1" WT: 209LBS.POSITION: CBSCHOOL: Florida St.ARM LENGTH: 33 3/8"HANDS: 9 1/2"40 YARD DASH: 4.41 SECBENCH PRESS: 14 REPSVERTICAL JUMP: 41.5 INCHBROAD JUMP: 135.0 INCH3 CONE DRILL: 6.94 SEC20 YARD SHUTTLE: 4.18 SEC60 YARD SHUTTLE: 11.10 SECThis is the summary of what I saw in the 3 games I watched in 2014:The Good- Has great speed to get down as a gunner and nice mirror ability to stuff the ball carrier. - Has ability to sneak through holes in the LOS and blocking kicks.- Had good coverage from the nickle corner position mostly matched up against RB's and TE's. - Matched up well against most WR's he faced.- Has excellent open field tackling ability.- Good at blitzing off the edge with the speed to beat tackles off the edge and to exploit small holes when rushing in the middle.- Has power to move people although he doesn't use it enough- Has length and speed to close on the ball in the air.- Has cat like reflexes to bat down any ball in his area while rushing the QB.- Clutch player with game sealing INT in one game and QB pressure in another game to seal the wins. The Bad- Unable to fight through blocks and make the tackle on runs or bubble screens. Only had one tackle in these 3 games after becoming engaged by a blocker.- Sometimes blitzes without full effort and just misses making the play.- Has a tendency to try to go for the ball instead of the tackle, or sack resulting in many missed opportunities.- Was too aggressive when playing safety at times resulting in big plays over the top.- Was involved in multiple blown coverages. - Does not meet the ball carrier with force. - Has a tendency to stay back and mirror the ball carrier instead of advancing and mirroring resulting in big plays run in his direction.- Sometimes looks winded and not giving full effort. - Has good game speed but not elite speed. - Good blitzer but tends to wait for a hole to open when blitzing inside.- Does not always get his head around to locate the ball in coverage.- Does not always have good tackling technique.AnalysisBecause of his inability to shed blocks, it would seem that free safety would be his best position. But he played outside CB in 2015. Probably because FSU lost Darby and he was the next best cover corner on the team. But if he is deep in coverage he will be able to use his speed and length to make plays while keeping blockers off of him. You must keep him clean because he lost 99% of the time when he was touched by any blocker. As talented as he obviously is, his inability to shed blocks would concern me greatly. Even when he seems to be disengaging it is as if he loses all of his explosive traits as soon as he is blocked by any player. At nickle corner or outside this will be a problem for him in the NFL. I would be concerned that teams would game plan against him like Notre Dame did in 2014. They ran right at him and always had a blocker on him. They also had protections in for his blitzing, unlike Miami. They made him look really bad.In the Miami game he was phenomenal from the nickle position. Blitzing and in coverage he graded out as high as he could. The only time he lost in that game IIRC is when he got blocked. The problem being he lost every single time he was blocked. So there it is in a nutshell. He is a great free safety prospect IMO but from nickle corner or safety in the box he will be a liability against the run.I can't grade him nearly as high as most have him. I would not pick him in the top 10 because of this issue but he certainly has first round talent.Original post on 2015 games.Lack of ball skills and lack of explosion. Technically unsound. Hips are too stiff and footwork is very poor. Instead of tackling he makes a feeble attempt at forcing a fumble. http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=258167&gif=PowerfulHideousArthropods He shows poor instincts on this come back route but even worse footwork. He had no chance to make this play due to poor technique and fundamentals. http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=258167&gif=ThatLimitedIguanodon He has good recognition on this play and he is in perfect position to grab an easy pick 6 but he drops the ball. http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=258167&gif=LiveDeadBorzoi This is the most damning piece of film below. If you make excuses for his horrible play because FSU clearly had him playing out of position at CB then how do you explain this? Ramsey doesn't even make an attempt to fight off this block. If he was a top safety prospect he should be blowing this play up. He had a clear outside lane and he just backpedalled. http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=258167&gif=DetailedWebbedAfricanharrierhawk What am I missing? The kid is supposed to be a top prospect but he looks awful on film. He has stiff hips, his ball awareness and toughness are pretty suspect given what I  have seen. How is this kid a top 5  prospect?
