Bucs don't have to and more importantly can't wait until June to cut Smith.
1. You can release players before June 1st and still give them the June 1st designation with the same salary cap benefits.
2. Bucs can't afford to risk him getting hurt at OTA/Mini Camp and then all of the sudden his $18M cap number is locked in.
3. Bucs need to get under the cap and they gain $15M of cap space by releasing him with a 6/1 designation.
Be better off drafting a left tackle. Wirfs is going to be an expensive re-sign. If he’s a left tackle it will be even worse.
Let White walk for the comp pick.
Let Dean walk for the comp pick.
Lock Wirfs and Winfield up.
I'd love to keep everyone but it isn't possible.
Then we gotta determine if we want dead cap space with Fournette and Gage. I think they are luxuries and have to go. Especially Fournette (said it was a terrible signing at the time and sure enough... dude came into camp in DT shape).
I'd even consider trading Godwin for a 1st round pick with his contract. I love him to death but we need a plethora of early picks to be able to retool. If we got an early 2nd for Godwin I'd do it in a heart beat.
I don't want Brady back personally but if he does that obviously changes things
Wasn't aware of the bold, cool good to know. Lenny nextBucs don't have to and more importantly can't wait until June to cut Smith.

Dear GM Licht
Bowles needs to go too. Our defense was bad this year and that was on Bowles. Our offense underperformed all year and that was part Leftwich and part Brady’s problem. You let Leftwich go and Brady will probably not come back unless you give him an incentive. I know an incentive that might help.
step 1…Fire Bowles
step 2….hire Sean Payton (remember Payton will be bringing Vic Fangio with him to be the defensive coordinator). You get 2 for the price of a draft pick.
step 3…Brady decides to return so he can be a part of a good offense. If he doesn’t you have a ton of “bridge” QBs that will get you through (Bridgewater, Garropola, Mariota, Matt Ryan, Carr…heck maybe even Rodgers.
step 4…let Sean Payton do his magic and silently recruit Kimara/Thomas/Taysom hill
step 5…let Vic Fangio do his magic with the defense (Bears and Broncos defense when they were tops in the league.
step 6…make some hard decisions on the cap like Brian Flores did in Miami. He cleaned house and set them up to be where they are now. He was trading guys left and right stockpiling picks and went after Tareek Hill.
step 7… if you decide to keep Boles as a head coach with a team in deep cap trouble and think we are close to winning another title then expect to be picking top 5 in 2024 draft.
step 8…I hope the Glazers follow these forums and pick up on Licht doing none of the above which means the Glazers have to do something about it.
Step 9…Glazers step in and fire Boles and Licht. And start back at step 2.
Buc Nation is watching what the team does and doesn’t do. Don’t waste any more time.
They aren't going to fire Bowles before the season, but IMO he will not be given the full season if things aren't looking good by around Week 11. Bowles didn't take over to build a team from the ground floor. He took over what was perceived to be a talented team. All he had to do, or so we thought, was stay the course. Next year again he'll have a talented team with many of his own players from his DC days on defense. If the team is losing, you can't say "Hey at least it's going in the right direction." The right direction with this team is winning games, not getting moral victories.
Not every head coaching job is the same, and that was the job he accepted for better or worse with full knowledge of what he was getting into. His job was to maintain, not rebuild. So if he doesn't maintain, there's no reason to keep him around for a rebuild. After 2022 and a good chunk of 2023 it will be evident whether Bowles is able to win with this team or not.
If they were firing Bowles it would have already happened.
This brass is so clueless.
I’m not so sure Bowles’ job is safe. If he starts assembling a crap staff he could be axed too.
I’d say it’s 85% Bowles returns
the 15% is for the tampering that Brady may do with Sean Payton
if Brady goes to owners and says I’ll play another 2 years with Tampa with Payton.
i don’t know how likely that is but ownership will jump at that immediately which is why no public statement will be made on Bowles until that theory is dead. Ball is in Brady’s court
Pat or Aaron, not sure which, on WDAE, said if Payton goes to Carolina he'll get the Panthers logo tatooed on his ass. I don't have any tatoos yet, but if the Saints allow Peyton to go to the Bucs I'll get a Fleur de lis tattooed on mine. Sean Payton will not be coaching in the NFC South.
