Honestly if we were going this route we might as well have kept Dominik. This seems like a blind stab in the dark by the Glazers hoping for good results. What I see is a guy who has not kept the same job or stayed in the same city for more than 3 years. To me that smells of a guy who has more of a short term mindset as oppose to long term.
Who would you have preferred?
Chris Ballard was my top choice. Of the guys we actually interviewed Lionel Vital or Ross. I didn't see the appeal of Dawson at all.
He had already met Lovie in Chicago (he was runner-up to Emery). Why should the order of interview be assumed to be the order of preference? I would hope they came into the process with a fairly open mind. Several of the guys mentioned had multiple interviews, which doesn't happen if there was a clear cut #1. You can fall into a trap of assuming what is reported is the full story - I'm guessing that the various reports which mentioned different candidates and different favorites was as much a function of each reporter's network as much as anything else.
Right. And Greg Schiano was the 1st choice all along.....
I think the point is whoever may or may not be your first choice before you sit down and interview them for ten hours is irrelevant. What matters is what you think afterward.

Go ahead bust his balls and pretend like he did nothing right while he was here. However the truth is that this team added a lot of talent through FA and the draft during his two years here including possible finding a QB in the 3rd round. Yeah he sucked hard at coaching that talent but he was a big part of why this team has so much.

+1. And Ballard was never going to interview or come here.As far as I can tell, the first report of Miami interviewing Licht was Jan 10th, and the Bucs on Jan 15th. Theres nothing saying the Bucs didn't try to interview him sooner. The season ended Dec 29th I believe. He probably had some year-end stuff to do with Arizona, then met with the Dolphins (not really sure if he met with other teams). I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility that he took a day or two once the season ended to be with his family. Who knows. He interviewed, nailed it and preferred the Bucs job over the Miami job. EDIT: Yes I know some of that is assumption. He has his press conference tomorrow, maybe he'll shed some light on it.
Arguing with Bootz is like chopping both of your legs off then complaining about not being able to walk.

Well we know that's not true. But we also know that the guys we interviewed first for the HC job weren't our first choices, or else we would have hired Mike Sherman and not offered Chip Kelly the job. So why is the first interview here suddenly so relevant?

It isn't. You seem more intelligent than most here but people honestly are misconstruing my statements. I said what took so long. I begged the question why did it take so long if he was the right guy all along like people are saying. Not "why wasn't he the 1st". A lot of assumptions followed as you see from folks and they began arguing something I didn't even say. Like skepticism isn't allowed here
I dont know much about the guy, so i don't have a strong opinion. The only think that scares me is that the only time in his career he was with a team that did not have a franchise QB in place, was with the Cardinals. During his tenure there they hadJohn Skelton, Ryan Lindley, Derek Anderson, Kevin Kolb, Brian Hoyer, and Carson Palmer under center.... Not very reassuring.
Bootz, I think you missed my original point (a few posts above):You seem to attach meaning to how long it took the Bucs to get to him. The reality is we don't really have any clue when the Bucs reached out to Arizona for permission to interview him. He's not even mentioned in a Roy Cummings article as a candidate in a Jan. 14 report, but Jason La Canfora reported on Jan. 15 that he had an "impressive" interview with the Bucs. Cummings says that 5 execs had already interviewed, though he could only confirm Vital. So I suspect that the names simply leaked out at various points. It's fine to be skeptical, but it would help your argument if the concerns were of the non-trivial variety.
The Palmer trade improved that team quite a bit.
I, for one, am glad the Glazers took their time and did not base this hire around the color of their skin. At first it seemed like all they were doing was interviewing minority candidates. I had no problem with hiring Vital though and was honestly surprised when I heard he was dropped out of the contention. I think Chris Ballard was the main choice but Jason Licht seems to be a well chosen candidate given the amount of experience that he has had with all well run organizations. I, for one, am glad there was not some bullshit in-house hire like we did last time with Mark Dominik.I do hope that Licht retains Erik Stokes. I think the drafts have gotten better with him and with those two in charge on draft day I am sure we will come away with some serious prospects. Good hire all around. Very happy with Licht and Lovie in charge of the Bucs. This beats the absolute crap out of last year's FO/Coaching staff.

True, but only because all the QBs from 2011 and 2012 were so awful it was impossible to be worse. If a 34 year old Carson Palmer is the best he can do at QB.....then consider me scared.
Who says he was involved with that particular player though?
