Sure to make some heads explode, but do you disagree with this:

"There isn’t a general manager who has been on a better draft-and-develop run than Licht over the past five years. Here’s an absolute bananas stat for you: Twenty-one different Buccaneers took a snap on defense against the Saints on Sunday. Seventeen of them were drafted by Licht at some point in the past decade, and two of the other four were drafted before Licht’s time in Tampa Bay. Only Greg Gaines’ 21 snaps and C.J. Brewer’s nine snaps were brought from outside the Buccaneers family.

And remember, they’re not doing this with elite picks. Key contributions have come this season from Tykee Smith, Jalen McMillan, Bucky Irving, Yaya Diaby, SirVocea Dennis, Rachaad White, Cade Otton and Zyon McCollum. Every player I just named was drafted in Rounds 3-5 of the past three drafts.

It’s always important to remember that general managers get hot, which means they can also get cold. But the Buccaneers were supposed to suffer a long recovery from the all-in Tom Brady era, and they’ve largely sidestepped it as a product of excellent drafting from Licht. Hats off to him."

And to think he's getting all this done with a Head Coach who killed Tom Brady!!

No doubt Jason has been one of the better GM's in the league for the past decade. He's definitely made some boneheaded picks on draft day but overall he's been great.

I always say this...he built a team that Tom Brady thought could win a championship.

I believe every starter except KJ Britt (6th) was drafted in 5th round or before, but Dennis was drafted in the 5th.  Bredeson and Mayfield of course were not drafted by the Bucs and David was drafted before Licht.   It's all great as long as the team is winning.

Licht does know how to add a piece here and there (beyond just guys off practice squads) when the Bucs are really going for a Superbowl.  Is this one of those years?

Bi-Polar comments. Licht is great at drafting players but I read so many comments about this player or that player being a bust. Which way is it?

Both things can be true. No personnel guy hits on 100% of his picks.

With that said, this is a fan boi article from JBF. Take it for what it's worth.

i mean, he's arguably the best in franchise history.  Not that this is saying much given our shit history.  Rich McKay obviously changed the culture and the only one GM in the discussion.

To me, what Jason Licht did bringing in Brady but what may be even more impressive was remaining competitive post Brady.  You have to remember this was a team that had a 12 year playoff drought.

The Mayfield experiment being successful thus far has bought him some time. Heck, i think if Bowles ends up faltering in a year or so, Licht will be employed to hire the next coach.

I think Jason Licht has been streaky over his entire tenure with the Bucs, but for the last 5 years he’s really come into his own, and is easily the best GM in franchise history - albeit it’s a low bar.

Whether you’re talking draft picks, trades, and staff/organization/culture he’s contributed upgrades, especially these last 5 years.

Agree with TraskForce regarding the post Brady/post Super Bowl era. Sure he talked Bruce Arians out of retirement, talked Brady (and Gronk) into TB, talked Bruce into AB, won a Super Bowl, then leveraged the re-signing of so many players immediately after the SB (and again last season)…it really is the success he’s squeezed out of the post-Brady era that’s been the most impressive thing to me.

That speaks of drafting well, excellent contract negotiation, and creating a team culture.

Licht has been/is a sneaky good GM.

Great way to describe it.

The quote is not an article from JBF lol so you started off in your usual shaky way, but if it was would this be “JBF Speak?”

One thing I really like about licht is that he knows how to get better and has been improving every year and learning. Really humble guy to keep learning. His first few years here he wasn’t to good at building a roster with some questionable move. But a big development in Licht is the signing of Arians who brought a coaching staff to build talent and knew what traits to look for in players, and culture building.

Arians, Licht, changed the culture in Tampa
