If (and it looks like a shaky "if" at the moment) Liam Coen is thinking of following the Ben Johnson model, did Ben Johnson's approach pay off?
He got a couple shots at a SB
His value did NOT go down, even with an early exit in the playoffs
He's reportedly getting $13 million per
He's getting the job he ultimately wanted (I think?)
Does anyone recall what job(s) he passed up when first in the HC market and at roughly how much?
I agree Coen could benefit from waiting, but based on the fact that he got a 2nd interview I don't expect he'll turn down the job if offered. I don't know that Trevor Lawrence is going to be able to master his offense the way Baker did. If he doesn't have a QB who can run the offense and doesn't have an O-line that can block then that bloom will come off the rose pretty quick, especially because he doesn't have HC experience. He'd be better off sticking around for another year and if all goes well he'd be more set up for success. He'll have more experience and will get better opportunities - perhaps even with the Bucs.
If we lose Coen to Jax and keep Bowles it'll set us back 5 years AND we again get no comp pick like with Canales leaving
Balke might be our best hope
"The Jacksonville Jaguars were also interested in Ben Johnson but I'm told the setup wasn't in line with what he was looking for in his first head coaching job."

wonder if the Jags will use this experience to finally dump Baalke?
if Coen was the hot interview, as many suggested, that would mean they lost Johnson and Coen and they are sitting on a 275 million QB contract
"This hire is all about Lawrence, which is why I could see Coen of Tampa Bay settling in as a strong No. 2 candidate," Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr wrote.
"Of course, we need to remember that Jacksonville is—for now—intent on keeping Trent Baalke as GM. Through the interview process, I’ve heard confirmation that Khan has a lot of trust in Baalke."
it has already started lol
Sam Monson
"The "setup" is also not to Coen's liking. Baalke. Baalke is still the setup."
