Josh McCown Drops in Ron Jaworski’s Quarterback Rankings by Jose Martinez 1h ago Jun 10, 2014; Tampa Bay, FL Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown (12) works out during mini camp at One Buccaneer Place. Kim Klement-USA TODAY SportsIf Josh McCown needed any motivation this upcoming season, he should take a look at where ESPN’s Ron Jaworski placed him in his 2014 NFL starting quarterback rankings. Even after McCown put up some stellar numbers in Jay Cutler’s absence with the Chicago Bears last season, Jaworski ranked the 35-year-old at number 25, which is three spots down from the previous year. Here is Jaws’ explanation: The presumptive starter in Tampa Bay, McCown played really well last season in Chicago after taking over for an injured Cutler. While McCown doesn’t do any one thing exceptionally well, he is fundamentally sound and lets the defense dictate where he goes with the ball. He had a QB rating of 108.5 on third down in 2013 and understands what defenses are trying to do. He’s great in the pre-snap phase, and with a couple of studs out wide in Vincent Jackson and rookie Mike Evans, he should excel in Tampa Bay. After reading that excerpt from Jaworski, you may be wondering, “after such a pretty positive review, how could McCown get such a low ranking?” You’re not alone. There is some doubt that McCown’s small sample size of success in 2013 could translate to 16 games. He will have a chance to prove those doubters wrong this upcoming season.link
