I'm just wondering how or when the Bucs will realize cap savings on JPP so they could sign other players if they so desired.

The NFI timeline is the same as the PUP timeline. The difference is you don't have to pay a player who is designated NFI.

the NFI List is pretty similar to the PUP List. A player has to be placed on it prior to taking part in any practices, and if they remain on the list into the regular season...they must sit out the first six weeks of the regular season. When those six weeks are up, the team has three weeks to decide whether or not the player can begin practicing with the team. If the player does start practicing with the team, they then have three weeks from the date of their first practice to decide whether or not they want to add him to the 53-man roster. If they don’t do so, the player will revert to injured reserve and will be out for the rest of the season.

So it seems pretty clear that there is no reason for the Bucs to cut JPP, because they don't have to pay him while he's on NFI. Even if he's able to come back quickly he has to be out at least six weeks, and he will need a couple weeks of practice. So the Bucs will be able to save about $7 mil. But

My question is how and when does that money come off the cap? Does it come off on a game by game basis? Or do the Bucs get to claim six weeks worth of savings as soon as he is placed on NFI? Anybody who has expertise in this area and can tell me how Pierre Paul's projected NFI designation will affect the Bucs cap situation?
