I'm not kidding. I think guys who follow analytics instantly get it. For those of you that don't, this may seem exaggerated.
The reason it is FACT that NFL teams should go for it more on 4th down. This is as true as anything is in football - the evidence is overwhelming. And you saw a less-talented team ride that to a Super Bowl win.
Koetter, in contrast, is saying he is more concerned about keeping his job than doing everything possible to win. As fans we often underestimate how close the line between winning and losing is in the NFL - especially in the playoffs. An advantage that gives you a couple % higher chance to win can be critical. As Belichick well understands, and as does Pederson.
A coach that coaches scared will never be a consistent winner. At best, Koetter will be above average. That's his ceiling. But the Bucs under his tenure will never be consistently great - because Koetter doesn't deal in facts and doesn't care above all about winning.
