He impressed me a lot. Led the pack in measurables, including the 40.Looked good dropping back and delivering the football. His 2 misses show that he is clearly still working on his footwork and dropback, but it also shows that he absolutely CAN learn the techniques and be a solid QB.But... once again..Jameis is just a couple of steps ahead. He doesn't need to improve much on his mechanics. He is a very astute pupil in the film room. Not to say Mariota isn't.. but Winston is just on another level as a passer.Lets look at the pros and cons for each.WINSTONPROS: Consistently flashes an elite arm, Leadership is through the roof, As clutch as it gets in the 4th quarter, Pro-ready, Flawless footwork, Hard Worker, Goes through progressions, Tough kid, Not afraid of taking the big hit, Elite pocket awarenessCONS: Character concerns (which seem like a lesser issue each day), Occasionally is too aggressive in his decision making early in games.MARIOTAPROS: Running ability, Good kid with no baggage, Willing to learn and coachable, Hard workerCONS: Not pro-ready, Needs work on mechanics, Hasn't ever put the team on his back, Not as fiery as a leader (freeman-esque), not used to huddling or calling plays, Inconsistent accuracy, Hasn't made as many NFL throws as you'd like from a #1 overall pick, gets ancy when his first read isn't there, Has a real issue with ball security in terms of fumbles, Gets nervy when things go bad (rarely happened to the ducks)To any non-biased fan Winston is the best passer. Mariota is a great athlete with high potential. I really think it's as simple as Kaepernick(Mariota) vs Brady(Winston)Winston reminds me so much of Brady as a QB. Fiery leader, elite passing skills, clear and seamless understanding of the position, and clutch closing skills with the game on the line.If you want to take Mariota because you're scared of Winston's past that's fine. But if you truly believe in your heart of hearts that Mariota is a superior QB you don't know football.I'm sorry, that's the truth.Mariota would be well worth #1 overall.Except he's coming out in the same year as Raymond Jameis Winston.Case closed. Go ahead and order your jerseys.
