Martin was inconsistent as a rookie and was outplayed by Rainey this year before heading onto IR. Rainey ran behind basically the same o-line so it wasn't like Martin had a disadvantage. Martin's contract is up in 2015 so he has to have a big season in 2014 and 2015 to be re-signed. But drafting a RB in the first round is a huge opportunity cost so this is something teams have taken into consideration.
Nearly 2000 yds from scrimmage was inconsistent? Guess trying to make a point is more important than facts and general common sense.
The fact is that Martin was inconsistent as a rookie and went through a dry spell during his rookie year. He has yet to show he is consistent.
LGB has been a model of consistency? Please, show me evidence.
Greg Schiano? Is that you? You were fired. Go back to Rutgers.
Yep. Didn't think you had an answer for that one.
LGB biggest issue was his fumbling and short yardage. As 1 dimensional as he is/was, he is a starting RB caliber in this league. He needed coaching. See what happens when a kid receives quality coaching? Alfred Morris rarely catches the ball as well.
^ 5.0 per carry is pretty consistent
Never understood the hate for the guy on here. He's a guy that needed coaching and a system that would make use of him.
Agreed

I'm not saying it was right or wrong, but why did he only start seven games this year? And he didn't rush for a 1,000 yards. I understand Belichick's two or three-headed monster attack. But if Bill thought he was the second coming of Walter Payton, and could effectively block or catch the ball out of the backfield, I'm sure he would have utilized him even more.

But also commitment by Blount to excel. That wasn't the case here from Blount. Big difference having Brady holding you accountable than Freeman. Blount went to the perfect situation for him and I am personally happy for him. But this is still a 4-12 team with or without Blount last year.

Hey, Demps averaged 14.0 yards per carry lol! Now there is consistency.

Beast
I don't care how many yards Blount rushes for getting rid of him was a good move. K2 and Talib as well
Really?
Damn. 2.7 ypc today. Tearing it up!And we really have a lack of depth at the RB spot too, thats what makes this especially painful
Really?
People forget how good this guy is. Look at this damn video and tell me he was only worth a seventh. http://youtu.be/TClRXTk4Yio

He was definitely the most fun to watch that year.
Buccaneers had neither the coaches nor teammates Blount found in NE. It would have been nice to have one or the other... but you get what you pay for.

Would you not agree that good coaches are able to get the best from their players?
Sorry man, Martin ain't that special, and NO running back is worth a first.
C'mon Doc, he was the 31st pick, not a top 10 guy. Look at the bright side, the Bucs could have traded up and gotten Trent Richardson lol. And I wouldn't say Martin was inconsistent, he did have almost 2,000 total yards. Plus even the biggest Blount fan would have to say he was/is one-dimensional. He had a whopping two receptions in 16 games this season this year, and that was with a coaching staff who "knows" how to use him.
RB is a committee position. You dint need to waste a high pick looking for one guy to do it all, let alone two. It's plug and play there.
