Schiano will ride out his contract for two reasons:1. The Glazers are cheap and unless Gruden or Dungy volunteer to coach the Bucs, Schiano's our guy.2. Schiano is helping lay the foundation for the Bucs future success with his disciplinary/attn to detail style of coaching. 2 more drafts and a franchise qb and we could have our pick of great HC candidates.

That's not entirely true. Maybe from you're perspective, but it's not set in stone.1. It could be argued that they've stopped the cheap ways. The last two seasons they have actually spent a lot. They also canned gru for less problems and as many seasons left on contract as well.2. They can lay whatever foundation they want, if they fire the current coach, all of that goes out the window and a new attitude is installed by the next. Also, if we're talking player talent, minus a qb and de, we can indeed excel with the talent tampa currently has...if we have a better game manager. The clock is ticking on those players as well, fans a are pretty pissed, and if they keep him, they'll lose ALL of the trust they earned after opening their wallets the past couple of years. No doubt, they might not want to get rid of schiano, but they also may have little choice not to as well. By most fans standards, keeping schiano would be a clear sign of their unwillingness to make all necessary changes to win. They've got standards around here so low, people were actually ecstatic over four wins...so they just might think they can risk it. So what then? ...a two game "improvement" next year signals a fourth year for him? Sickening.

"Lets be realistic. Schiano is staying in 2014"^^Theres nothing that convinces me of that.If we go 4-12, I think the chances are pretty good that Schiano will be fired... but if we somehow pull a miracle out of our arse and beat the Saints, Schiano may have one more year. A lot hinges on Sunday's game IMO.

The bucs would win this one because we know it would help us fans see a better team on sundays. It's been that way for a long time now.Self inflicted wins for no realistic reason. We excel at it.

Why in the world would they keep Schiano?  The contract money is a ridiculous argument, just shows how clueless some fans are not only about business in general, but the Glazers in particular.  What is the expectation if he is retained?  There is absolutely NO reason to believe he has this team poised for a playoff run.  So the best case is a "wait and see" if he can manage some "improvement" ? And then start thinking about playoffs in 2015?  His "best case" for 2014 seems to be just getting the team to break the .500 mark.He offers nothing but bad press and a year of limbo and empty seats if you keep him.

yea we've got a very apathetic fan base at the moment... but my opinion is that they've already made the decision to retain him. But who knows, it's been a wild, wild season in all the wrong ways/

I think after winning four of out of five, the Glazers did indeed settle on keeping Greg...but they've dropped their last two and haven't looked good in doing it. If they get pounded by the Saints the Glazers may indeed change their minds on this one.  If they can pull out a win - Greg can say, "Look I went 5-3 in the second half without several of my best players on offense and a rookie QB." 4-4 isn't quite as impressive, especially against the teams they beat.I think getting outclassed by a mediocre Rams team hurt him.

While the Glazers do not usually fire coaches after two years and keeping in mind that we do not want to be a bottom feeder like the raiders have been this past decade. The Glazers need and probably will fire Schiano after the year. After this season Schiano will be 11-21 as head coach, which would be a worse record than Morris had over 2 years, that is unacceptable and the fan base most likely will not want to see another year of Schiano. Also what makes anyone think Schiano will get better as a coach when he has not seemed to improve at all since he was hired. Before anyone mentions the money they would have to pay Schiano, one has to remember the Glazers paid Freeman $6 million to go away so I doubt they would have a problem paying Schiano $9 million to go away. To me if the Glazers want to prove to me they are trying to build a winner then they will fire Schiano next monday.

Well said

The defense is primed to be one of the best in the league in 2014. That has been the focus in Schiano's first two years. Schiano established new franchise standards on offense for points and yardage in his VERY FIRST YEAR as an NFL HC, and he did it with Josh Freeman at QB. He deserves a medal. He also deserves at least one more year to address the needs of the offense. He's done a great job with RBs so far. When the OL, TE, and receivers get addressed, we'll see what we really have with Mike Glennon. The Gazers are not as myopic as many are here. They take into account the positives that Schiano has brought to the team. He'll be back, and I'm looking forward to it.

1st year  8-82nd year 4-123rd year 12-4The coach? Schottenheimer with the Chargers1st year 6-102nd year 5-113rd year 10-64th year 3-12The coach? Shanahan with the Redskins. The guy that 90% of this board was clamoring to hire after Rah's first year. The Bucs have arguably had their best drafts in over a decade since Schiano was hired. The defense has improved by leaps and bounds. The offense is still missing critical depth at numerous positions. Last year the Bucs' special teams sucked. Schiano canned his special teams coach. This year the offensive scheme sucks. If he replaces Sullivan I think he gets another year.

I agree, but most on this board believe Schiano has been Armageddon for the franchise. How soon we forget the joke this team was under Raheem. Completely unprofessional. And for those who say Schiano was unprofessional this year, that is surely the perception around the league and other fans isn't it? But as ronde barber has said him self, perception isn't always reality. Schiano runs a tight ship, something the glazers wanted because Raheem refused to play that way and look what happened. Truth is none of us really knows what happens inside one buc. If schiano starts winning next year the fans will come back. Hell, they came back at the beginning of this season and all we did was lose at the end of the season last year. Expect some serious PR this offseason because that's the only way fans will be in the seats week 1.

Not many unproven coaches are going to survive a 4-12 season with little talent. This team has plenty of talent of money spent on it. Yeah Freeman sucked and wasn't Schiano choice. But the team still has many accountability issues. You can say Schiano runs a tight ship, but it sure as hell doesn't show up on the field. Too many penalties and most are by the same friggin players. How many more drives does a guy like Goldson have to extend before the team benches him for a lesser talented player in Tandy. Tandy has not been great, but he isn't out there committing stupid personal fouls that are killing the team.

IMO, Schiano is gone.  I really think the Glazers want Lovie Smith.

Maybe so... I would be happy to bring lovie back to Tampa. Fans would love it. We also have far more offensive weapons than the bears ever had under lovie.

Welp...SI's Don Banks and the people "around the league" seem to agree, unfortunately.

@gregauman:SI's @DonBanks says the sense around league is that Bucs' Schiano and Dominik are in good position to return in 2014.

Tampa Bay -- The sense around the league is that head coach Greg Schiano makes it to 2014 in Tampa Bay. It wasn't a unanimous opinion by any stretch, but the feeling is he's done just enough to fend off his detractors and keep his job. It helped Schiano considerably with the Glazer family, the team's owners, that rookie quarterback Mike Glennon has played pretty well -- like the coach told them he would -- and that ex-Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman did nothing in Minnesota, after signing there in October. The Bucs aren't that far away from playoff contention. They have enough talent to win with on defense, but they need more speed on offense and ability to stretch the field vertically in the passing game. That Tampa Bay's players didn't quit on Schiano during the Freeman saga and continued to play hard for him also bodes well. Clearly 2014 shapes up as a must-win season for the Bucs, but it would now register as a surprise if Schiano was out of work at some point next week. And the same goes for Bucs general manager Mark Dominik, who continues to be perceived as having a solid relationship with the Glazers, despite no playoff trips in his first five seasons heading up Tampa Bay's front office.Read More: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl/news/20131226/black-monday-primer-coaches-gms-2013/#ixzz2ogGOFrwy

Gotta love them Glazers, eh?  They're still getting theirs so...
