Depending on what happens during FA and with the Texans first pick, I really could see the Bucs trading up to 2 if they think their guy is there.
I think if they traded Revis, and Clowney is there at 2, they could use some picks from the Revis deal and go get Clowney, then use the extra money on someone like Hardy, or use it on Jared Allen, Hester, Tillman, vet QB, that sort of thing. Clowney, Spence, McCoy, Hardy? Sounds good huh?
New rookie salaries suggest teams don't feel forced to start players because they are making obscene amount of money in the top ten.
Agree...the money makes it easier to sit a 1st rounder than in the past, but where our team stands right now...we need our 1st/2nd round picks to be on the field if not more. Drafting your backups early is a luxury we dont have right now.
Theoretically it makes it easier - the reality is that every single first round QB taken under the new rookie rules has started from day 1.

I think if Clowney makes it past Houston #1 we try to move up to get himjust call it a hunch but I think this is the guy Lovie wantsnotice how he really isnt being mentioned much by from the team ramblings
A first round rookie isn't guaranteed to start so what Licht said hasn't tipped his hand.
While Im not a fan of drafting a QB in the first this year...if we do it better be to start. Worst case scenario is using #7 on a QB who cant beat out Glennon.
being patient with a first round QB =/= can't beat out Glennon
Sorry, but they ARE looking for a qb to replace glennon.
One man's tip off is another man's smokescreen...

doesnt seem to have the character and intangibles that Lovie wants.
People read into things according to their own opinions. It's pretty funny.
Don't really feel like the rookie pay scale comes into play in this particular instance. This just doesn't seem like a year where the Bucs can afford to use a 1st round draft choice on a guy that may or may not beat out Glennon. That guy needs to fill a hole at a starter position. And I don't feel like the GM comes out and says that he is gonna give the current QB every opportunity to start, when he is gonna use a first rounder on a new QB... That's not called creating competition... That's called drafting a new "Franchise Quarterback".... Especially if we stick at number 7. We also CURRENTLY dont have the ammo to move up in this draft. 5 draft picks and no 3rd rounder does not equal moving up in the draft. I dont care who Houston Takes... I would not be surprised at all if we sit and wait to see who falls to us... If Watkins is there we take him... if not we will try to move back if possible. Otherwise we take a tackle. I think the "competition for the QBs" will come from the later rounds.
What I hope is their thinking...1. Trade Back (unless Bridgewater or Clowney are there)2. Sit tight, take the BPA3. Trade up for Bridgewater using next years first.I think those are the only realistic options in order . JMHO.
Our it could be a smoke screen. All these guys are savvy and generally when they say things they are very calculated. He could simply want other teams to pencil the bucs in for a quarterback.
Maybe the smokescreen is a smokescreen.

They are looking for a QB that CAN replace Glennon if they feel like Glennon isnt working. Sorry, but unless their plan is to trade up, they arent looking for a QB to out right replace Glennon.
Maybe the smokescreen is a smokescreen.
Licht that sneaky son of a B
I've had the idea of trading down(getting more picks), drafting the Qb of their choice, then trading Glennon for even more picks . . .
