Exit Trask, Enter Rattler?
if Licht takes a QB it will be at the end of the draft or an undrafted guy for a spot on the ps.
we already have 3 QBs under contract and you dont keep a 4th on the 53-roster... neither Trask nor Wolford end up on the practice squad!
Yup.
Taking a Qb with one of our 3rd rounders is insanely stupid, when you consider all the other holes this team has.
Perhaps. Licht is not going to take a QB just to take a QB, it would have to be someone he thinks has all the qualities that can eventually be developed into a legitimate starting and winning QB for the long term. Time is on their side, but the raw material has to be there, both mentally and physically. There are plenty of Gabberts and Wolfords out there, cheap veterans with some experience who can be brought in for depth. There's no point drafting a QB at any stage of the draft if you think they're nothing but a career backup.Exit Trask, Enter Rattler?
So it's pretty clear who the candidates are for a 3rd round. Penix, Rattler, Pratt are possibilities, but Penix will probably go earlier than late 3rd round. Pratt will probably last until 4th or 5th. But Rattler could be around in the 3rd.
Anything could happen, but I think they’ve dedicated all the resources they’re going to concerning the QB position.
Too many relevant needs that can be addressed in the draft - falling where we will be selecting - and not an abundance of picks.
It's true there are many more pressing needs when you are strictly looking at next year. In 2021 they drafted Kyle Trask. That was a year after they signed Tom Brady to a two-year deal. So Licht isn't afraid to think ahead when it comes to the quarterback position.Anything could happen, but I think they’ve dedicated all the resources they’re going to concerning the QB position.

The only section where we draft a quarterback is where we simultaneously acquire a pick for Trask. Like others have mentioned there are quite a few holes on the roster still. But again, it is possible, but only if you’re getting an extreme value (like if Penix falls) AND you got something on the table for Trask

To most the question is why cut him? I'm asking why keep him? Why keep Kyle Trask? It's a new coach and a new system. He doesn't know the system like Wolford does. He probably doesn't fit the system. Why spend countless coach hours and OTA and training camp practice reps on him bringing him up to speed on a new system only to have him take up the 3rd string emergency QB spot and be gone at the end of the year? It would be better to bring in anybody even a UDFA QB and give them the practice reps because at least you could keep him around on the practice squad a few years ala Ryan Griffin. I have nothing against Trask and wish the best for him but even a UDFA has more chance to be on the Bucs in 2025 than Trask does.

No shit.
Hear me out...but, I think he made that decision a few weeks ago.
If you'd like me to tell you who Licht chose, send me a DM, and I'll talk it over with you.
Well hope that now that QB is all set, may need some depth involved.
Well, I'll pass on the DM. I have never DMed anybody on purpose. Maybe you can just post his initials and I'll figure it out and keep it under my hat. I imagine we'll find out from the PR draft positions preview whenever that comes out, but I believe you that you may have some insight into that. It's probably from the Senior Bowl.Licht is not going to take a QB just to take a QB, it would have to be someone he thinks has all the qualities that can eventually be developed into a legitimate starting and winning QB for the long term.

Well, over the last ten years I counted 62 QBs taken on Day 3 of the draft. That's an average of almost two per team. None of those were by the Bucs. How many of those 62 were actually expected to become starting QBs? Dak Prescott, and of course Brock Purdy are the notable exceptions, but that's 2 out of 62 or 3%. I don't think teams draft Day 3 QBs because they want to hit the lottery and take 3% chance they're the next Dak or Brock. They draft them because there's a fair chance they'll become the next Josh Dobbs or Trevor Seimien or Jarrett Stidham - a guy who can start a few games in a pinch. But Licht to this point has never decided to utilize a draft pick for that purpose. Probably because those guys usually end up bouncing around theLicht is not going to take a QB just to take a QB, it would have to be someone he thinks has all the qualities that can eventually be developed into a legitimate starting and winning QB for the long term.

You can't base many judgements on a guy if there was only three or four years of history, but with ten years now under Lichts belt you can start to draw some educated guesses about what he is likely to do. That's kind of why I did this thread, because I realized how long Licht has been here - Licht has had ten drafts. Wow that's a long time and it's worth looking into how he does his drafts.
Of course he could come out and do the total opposite from what he's done in the past just because he's learning, the situation is different, his new coaches have preferences, or whatever. But Trask or no Trask I just don't think Licht wants to use the draft just to build up the the depth in the QB room. Some teams do that. He's had success with the Gabbert and Wolford types so why bother.
Maybe you can just post his initials and I'll figure it out and keep it under my hat.
BM.
Well, Licht isn't going to voluntarily give a list of his favorites, but you'd have to figure out which QBs might fit the mold of what could fit with the Bucs need for a third QB.

Agree, I have been advocating for the same.
Chris Godwin prospect info: Penn State, 6'1", 209, 4.41 40 yard dash, performed well in Rose Bowl, projected to go 2nd Round, drafted Round 3 Pick 20.
Roman Wilson prospect info: Michigan, 5'11" 186 lb, 4.39 40 yard dash, performed well in Rose Bowl championship game. Good Senior Bowl, projected mid 2nd Round by some to Round 3-4 by others.
Just sayin, if the Bucs are looking to draft an eventual replacement to Godwin......
