This hire is hilarious
I'd have thought Zimmer would have been a better choice than Caldwell. I honestly don't feel like Caldwell is that great of a hire.I hate the Lions, so I'm not complaining.
Several of the names we wanted other than Lovie are still current coaching.
My brother is a Lions fan. He's pissed. It's an underwhelming hire considering the ravens were 25th in offense. Thought Whisenhunt or Zimmer were better choices. Whisenhunt must've wanted more control in DET because TENN doesn't have a QB. Locker is good but injury-prone.
From an offensive perspective I think the Lions are probably looking at Flacco's SB run
Dungy gave him a glowing recommendation.
True but at least it's not a kiss of death like a bill bellichick recommendation. Dungy hires ur usually guaranteed being mediocre to great. A bellichick recommendation on the other hand usually guarantees years of suck.
I just can't believe they would wait and get one of the promising young coordinators from one of the remaining play off teams. Caldwell just feels like such a cop out. Like they just got tired of dragging it out and said ah phuk it.
is this a reflection at all on Stafford? I know the media builds him up as an "elite" or near to elite QB status but maybe the coaches interviewing for the Lions (specifically Whisenhunt) might not think that Stafford is the answer at QB and imagine a first time HC going into Detroit and making the move to not start Stafford. The might look at him as an anchor weight around their neck if they took the job. just a thought after hearing all the media heads saying that Detroit is the most appealing HC job out there
I also live in Michigan. This is so typical lions. They strike out on their first 3 choices so they panick and hire a guy who apparently would've been fired from the Ravens this offseason anyway. Mike Zimmer, Greg Roman, Bevell, so many better options out there, yet they choose a guy who was fired from the Colts after only 3 years, 2 years in which he made the playoffs. Shows you what they really thought of him. He's good for QBs? Funny, the Colts didn't want him to mentor Luck.
Hmm...

They got spurned at least a few times. They probably thought it was getting embarrassing. It may part be Stafford in the fact that he signed that huge extension and hasn't played up to it.. The Lions are married to him no matter what. Plus there are apparently salary cap issues on the horizon. So an incoming coach won't be able to add a whole lot.

Lions Offense - TM - LionsCBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Colts QBs coach Clyde Christensen is Lions coach Jim Caldwell's "top choice" to serve as Detroit's offensive coordinator.Caldwell and Christensen worked together in Indianapolis from 2002-2011. When Caldwell was named the head coach of the Colts in 2009, he promoted Christensen to OC. Current Colts coach Chuck Pagano retained Christensen as QBs coach. Christensen was a major influence on Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. He'd be a terrific hire to work alongside Matthew Stafford.Related: ColtsSource: Jason La Canfora on Twitter Jan 14 - 2:53 PM
How much of an "influence" do you really need to/can you be to Peyton Manning?
Find me a depressed Ravens fan this morning. That is all you need to know about the hire.
Lions fans didn't seem to be thrilled on Sirius NFL Radio.
This is the worst hire in the NFL since the Bucs hired Raheem. Lion fans are screwed.
