Lovie Smith Explains Why Jameis Winston Is the "Perfect Fit" by Jose Martinez 1h ago When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers submitted their card for the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, what was the factor that separated Jameis Winston from Marcus Mariota? Sure, Winston has a solid arm and poise in the pocket, but Mariota does, too. While on the radio show Talk of Fame, head coach Lovie Smith revealed the defining factor which made Jameis the perfect fit. Here’s a transcript of Lovie’s entire response, courtesy of JoeBucsFan.com:“For us, it was just more about what we like,” Lovie said. “Great leader. You hear that term ‘leadership’ thrown around but if you are around Jameis a little bit, you can kind of see his teammates believe in him. He has a lot of confidence in himself and I think as a quarterback, a guy people look to every play, guys want to know, ‘Hey, it will be OK. We can do this.’ That’s what you get from Jameis right away.“I think to be a leader at the quarterback positon, you need to feel comfortable talking and being out in front. He has that. I think the way you judge great quarterbacks a little bit is, can they throw the football? Jameis Winston can make all of the throws. We feel like he is accurate. He had a couple of interceptions, more than we would like last year, but we think he can make all of the throws which we want. And you look at his record, he has won a lot of football games.“In the end, he was the perfect fit for us.”With quarterbacks, there are certain aspects that cannot be taught and one of them is that true leadership quality where your teammates would run through a wall for you. It may still be too early to say that about Winston with his new Buccaneers teammates, but that was something definitely prevalent during his time with the Seminoles. Jameis has already showed that, in due time, he can be that type of leader in the Bucs locker room.link
