ESPN reported that former Chicago coach Lovie Smith is the early front-runner for the vacant head-coaching. According to a source, if Smith gets the job, he has lined up former University of California coach Jeff Tedford to be his offensive coordinator, a source said Monday.Smith has several other coaches in mind for his staff, but getting Tedford is seen as a key for Smith, whose offensive philosophy has been questioned severely since his days with the Bears.Tedford was the head coach at Cal from 2002 to 2012. Prior to that, he spent six years at Fresno State and four years at Oregon as an offensive coordinator or quarterback coach. Between the three stops, Tedford helped develop quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Trent Dilfer, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith and Kyle Boller. All six became first-round picks and two (Rodgers and Dilfer) have led teams to Super Bowl victories. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Lovie-Smith-has-Tedford-lined-up-as-his-OC.html

Tedford was always considered an innovative offensive mind, albeit in college.

Ugh. Another college guy. That's the last thing this team needs. He should be on a VERY short leash if he gets hired here as OC.

Maybe its the 5 years and no playoffs talking, but Lovie Smith plus the guy who produced a handful of 1st round QBs? Where can I sign?

HC Lovie Smith - OC Jeff Tedford - I would rather have an offensive coordinator who has a proven track record in the NFL...Now if Tedford came in as the QB coach that would be a respectable start for Smith...Hopefully the team retains Earnest Byner as the RB coach. And for DC Leslie Frazier.

Don't know much about Tedfors but I have to say that the QB list is not really that impressive on an NFL level. Brooks of course, but the others never really amounted to much in the NFL other then Dilfer getting a ring with the Ravens.

You mean most of his QBs play declined after leaving his system/playcalling/coaching?Thats a real negative

The best QB on Tedford's list is Aaron Rodgers.  He went through a major rework of his mechanics before he was ready in Green Bay.
