This article never mentions Tony Dungy, but it brought back memories of him. http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football/bucs/mariota-exposes-bucs-defensive-deficiencies/2245580 I recall how exasperated I would get at Tony Dungy after a tough loss, where he would like clockwork tell the media they were "going back to fundamentals". "WHAT the H... was he thinking??? " ran thru my mind many a time back then with Dr. Dungy...I have to wonder now if Tony KNEW something back then I didn't quite "get", and maybe Lovie needs to better understand. From many reports, Lovie has been religiously preaching "takeaways" and "big" plays by the defense. That's obviously great when it happens, but ESPECIALLY with a younger team, maybe NOT so good when it's preached with greater emphasis than keeping the fundamentals AT ALL TIMES FOREMOST IN THEIR MINDS. That starts with MENTAL prep; don't get too full of yourself after a good play, or too down after a bad play. There are usually more plays coming, which if not handled correctly, could reverse the effect of the previous play... Lesson - there are no shortcuts to success; it's a grind...
