No way Jay comes to Tampa with the family history. Lovie would be OK provided he leaves the offense alone and Tedford can devise an offense according to the roster's strengths. But Lovie did the opposite in Chicago. I also would prefer an offense-minded coach that has at an average defense. It's the way of the league now.

I get that, but doesnt it concern people that tedford is responsible for some of the worst qbs to enter the league, and only Rodgers, after sitting and being redeveloped,  is the only one to do well?

One could draw the opposite conclusion from his QB record.

I cant, he's helping his team in the playoffs again.

his team with a dominant defense?

yep, that one, where a good defense is supported by the 10th offense in the league. lovie ever combine a top defense and offense on the same team?

not sure, but this is wkipedia:"Smith and the Bears’ management drew criticism in April 2006, by trading away their first round pick and drafting five defensive players.[12] The preseason criticism increased when he named Grossman, who struggled to move the Bears’ offense during the preseason, as the Bears' starting quarterback.[13] Grossman led the Bears to seven consecutive victories, but struggled during the later portion of the season. Smith stood by Grossman, stating "Rex is our quarterback" when questioned by the media.[14] The Bears finished the 2006 season with a 13–3 record, earning the NFC’s top playoff seed. The Bears finished the season with the NFL's second-ranked scoring offense, and fifth-ranked overall defense.[15]"

he's responsible for how players play when he's NOT the coach?  How about when he was the coach he got a LOT of guys to the NFL?  Not sure I follow the point you're raising

Don't know much about Tedford but I guess with Lovie it's kind of a leap of faith with his offensive coordinator pick. Close your eyes and jump! :)

good find Vin. I'll give ya credit for that... im still nervous it will be another 5-10 years of mediocre offense and strong defenses, but not enough offense to win the game.

how is getting a lot of QBs and RBs to the NFL . . . . out of Cal, no less . . .  a sign that a guy is a "bad" coach? he's responsible for how they play when they get there?

Moose, if he coached those guys up in college to look good enough that NFL scouts viewed them as 1st round talent, then how does that make him a bad coach? How does what his QB's do after he is no longer coaching them reflect badly on him? Making mediocre QB's look like 1st round talent is a sign of good coaching, not bad coaching. Dennis Dixon is the only QB that Chip Kelly even had drafted during his entire time at Oregon as OC and HC. Doesn't seem to have kept him from seeing success in the NFL.

point im trying to make is, he got guys hyped up in college for draft time, but it appears only one had "it"I'm sure I'm not saying it well, but smith, carr, etc were flops. possibly due to their career surroundings,  but that many flops seems like hes a guy meant to stay in college, that he doesnt have the ability to get guys ready for the nfl.

maybe, who knows?  My guess would be that just the mere fact that Lovie ADVERTISED Tedford is a sign that Lovie at least understands your concern . . . and if we all get that offense is important today . . .I would guess Lovie knows that too.that said, the reason its intriguing to me is because our defense seems closest to elite status, so it seems like Lovie could help there.  It doesn't take much more than health and some new talent to make the offense respectable. We had a top 15 offense or so last year with basically the same guys and Freeman, right?

Agree Dal. I live 2 hours west of Chicago so  I've seen my share of Bears games with Lovie. I also share the anxiety of most when talks turn to Lovie's track record on offense. Besides Martz, he had guys like John Shoop for OC and when his job was on the line a season ago and knew he had to win in the playoffs he gives the offense to Mike Tice? Plus, he's the one who approved of trying to turn Devin Hester into a No. 1 receiver. Plus if he even thinks an assistant coach is getting more credit than he is for exceptional performance, they're launched. Ask Ron Rivera or Ron Turner. I'm sure the Glazers have their numbers. Just my 2 cents.

Not sure if I agree with this.  They are not launched, so much as given an opportunity to make bigger dollars elsewhere. And most will jump at an opportunity to make more, AND be in charge. But I think that Lovie is what he is and that is a guy who can organize and handle egos, and get a roster put together to win many games.  That is the ideal anyway...but I can see him being considered a fossil as well...(should he fail). But he will not be in charge of any high powered offenses, so prepare for conservative up the wazoo.

He's a guy that has systematically made QB's with apparent flaws look good enough to NFL scouts to be considered 1st round talent. That is not a bad thing. That is a good thing.
