Russel Wilson or Ben Roethlisberger? Because that's really kind of what we're debating. The main difference(IMO) is Winston's ceiling is "Big Ben", whereas Mariota's ceiling/peak potential is a more dynamic Russ Will, approaching Aaron Rogers status. In this context, I'm taking Mariota. MM has true game breaking ability...He extends plays, reads and reacts at the speed of light, looks upfield constantly, hits the homerun throw, adapts to defenses weaknesses, and majorly changes things with his feet. I respect Winston's game but in the face of heavy pressure/rush, adversity against superior competition, and the scrutiny he'll face throughout his career, I just see him folding up and failing to reach his full potential. On a 1 to 100 scale(Madden Style) I'd rate: Winston's floor at 30 and his ceiling at 95Mariota's floor at 70 and his ceiling at 92A championship team needs a franchise QB...probability says MM is the best choice given all factors. Dirk Koetter being hired as OC more so leads me to believe Mariota is the pick...Koetter can't be stylistically pigeon holed, he simply uses the tools he has/had to their strong suits. 80% or more of the offenses in the NFL utilize Winston like QBs and traditional drop back QBing. With Koetter being a strength finder type OC, MM is a match up nightmare for defenses. He's the safer bet to reach super stardom and the sexier project for a creative OC. I have other stuff to say...but let's jump the discussion off with the content so far. Thoughts?
