I love the inside information on this website and have been a member for about 7 years, but I disagree with SR on several points regarding Winston vs. Mariota. The first reason is this whole notion that Mariota is a product of the system at Oregon. While some of that is truth, Mariota possess unreal skills that allow him to quarterback this offense. Remember when Aaron Rodgers fell because everyone said he was a product of Jeff Tedford offense, look at him now. To criticize him for playing in a system and being successful it bothers me. I am not saying he is going to be the next Aaron Rodgers but who are we to say he won't be a success in the NFL. We don't know either way, but I will say this I trust Mariota's passion for the game and know he would do everything he could to try and become a success in the NFL, can't say the same thing about Winston.Winston is a very talented football player but also has some major baggage and would you really take a chance on him with the first overall pick and he very easily make or break your job career. He could turn out to be a huge success in the NFL but he reminds me a lot of Freeman. Has better leadership skills but also has a lot of the immaturity and that scares me to death. Would he leave the NFL to pursue a career in the MLB? Would he be a constant headache by not dedicating the worthy time in trying to be successful? Your skills will only take you so far, but you have to want to be the best and put the time in order to do that, I don't think Winston thinks he has too and that's going to hurt him along down the road.I love everything about Mariota, his desire to play, his humbleness, and his personality is by far and away one of the best I have ever seen coming out of college. He skills remind me of Rodgers but has the attitude of a Drew Brees. I wrote on here a week ago that I have a relative in the organization and said the OC would be either Koetter or Roman. Roman was considered but he is being looked at hard by Buffalo for the HC position. I said that no way would Trestman be the choice, and for obvious reasons I stated before. Its either Mariota or trade down for the Bucs, they love Winston but way too many question marks about his character which makes up a human being and they don't want to have to constantly worry about him. Koetter was brought here for experience and ability to groom quarterbacks, and you better believe Lovie/Koetter/Licht are ecstatic they have a kid like Mariota to choose from. Koetter will be able to help Mariota with the transition to the NFL, and he could be something extremely special.
